My boyfriend took me here for happy hour. Drinks were good and the food was delicious. But when i glanced at the bill i see 20% gratuity added. Okay no problem only it wasn’t correct. When i further examined i see they charge 20% gratuity on the regular price not the total amount charged for your bill for the happy hour prices. When i asked the waitress she says oh yeah they do that to make sure we get paid. Then the manager he says oh yeah that’s how we do it. And then says i will bring it up to our general manager. Boyee bye!!! Then he gives us a free appetizer coupon.
The service was good but i feel that is deceitful. Why not charge 20% on the total you have to pay which was still a decent amount.
Also i dont like restaurants that will drop the bill on a dirty table! Unprofessional!

My wife and I stopped into State Fare in Catonsville after work for a quick bite, and we both had burgers on the brain.
I was fully prepared to order the “build your own smash burger” until my eagle-eyed wife noticed the “All-American Burger” on the menu. Pro-tip: it’s a bit cheaper and comes with exactly what you’d probably build anyway, two smash patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. We both ordered that, added bacon, and got it with the State Fare sauce (their take on Thousand Island).
The food was all around solid. Is it the best burger I’ve ever had in my life? No. But it is a really good fix when you are craving a classic burger. The crispy wedge fries that came with it were a great side, too.
Honestly, we were so hungry when the food hit the table that we completely forgot to take pictures at the beginning. All we have to show for it is a picture of the to-go box with what was left! Solid spot, we enjoyed it.

Cool soot in Catonsville. Food is good – recommend the crispy chicken cobb salad. My wife had the shrimp wrap, which she said was good, but could have used more seasoning (maybe old bay, or just some black pepper). She had the chips with hers, which also lacked seasoning (salt or maybe old bay). Service was fine – not overly attentive,. Will definitely return. Loved the vibe of the olace with big doorway opening onto their patio seating. Good spot.

First time to State Fare. A beautiful August morning and we dined outside. Only three other tables with two guests at each at 9;30 am Saturday. Food was good as well as the atmosphere dining outside. But service was excruciatingly slow. The waitress was sweet, but rarely did she come around. Another table went inside to pay instead of waiting. We requested a small to-go container and the check. After more than 5 minutes the waitress came out with container and check in hand and spent 10 minutes (no lie) taking orders (and chatting) from three other tables before bringing our container and check that was in her hand the entire time. Will we be back? Not likely since we heard previously that service was an issue but we gave it a shot anyway and found out it was true.

It was my first time coming to this restaurant and I won’t be returning. The waiter was fine, no problems there. The music was cool. It wasn’t crowded. It was cool. The bathroom was clean. The 3 stars are for the food. I ordered the blackened chicken with crabmeat and it came on top of a bed of brussel sprouts. Who does that?! No sides? I didnt realize it came that way, that my fault, but, they were good. The chicken, however, was not. It was overly salted in certain areas and bland. It certainly wasnt blackened. It looked it could have been grilled. It was terribly dry. The white cream sauce had NO flavor. I ordered mac and cheese as my side and it was really just cavatappi noodles in an alfredo “like” cheese sauce. They went heavy on the garlic, but that was also bland. The chicken wings and the chicken pot stickers were great though! Maybe this was an off night for them in the kitchen because my entree sucked. Also, they don’t do split checks. I went for a party so we all had to do the math for our personal tab. They also add 20% gratuity.

We met some family who live in the area here for breakfast, they talked highly of it. Overall, it’s a very solid establishment. They have a large tented area with seating that you walk through to get to the entrance, I was a little worried at first since the tent looked rather dirty and kind of ragged. Once you walk in, though, the place is very clean. They have a bunch of music icon pictures throughout, but we couldn’t figure out how it fit into the name, we guessed maybe they all played the State Fair of MD. Anyway, they were kind of cool. We got sat right away. Our server was excellent, very attentive even though we had a big party and she had another big party. Everything was good. My daughter really liked her wings, and the crab dip was excellent, as was the cinnamon bun. My wife also liked her drinks. Good food and service, think you can’t go wrong here

I took my grandson there as a treat for his performance in a school play. Most disappointing. The waiter left a lot to be desired. He got one drink and forgot the other. My iced tea was bitter so I ordered ginger ale and he forgot to bring it as a replacement. He brought the food which was very well presented and tasted good. We had a chicken sandwich with fries and salmon on Jasmine rice. I had to ask him for my drink and a refill for the other. (I observed him hanging out with the other waiters and not paying attention to us.) No refill. The table beside us came in at least 20 minutes after us and received their food before we got ours. Bar patrons and servers were extremely loud NOT HAPPY

Update April 2025 still a great spot for eating and drinks any time of day. I was there with a large group on a Wednesday at 1 first our waitress was so kind attentive and efficient super cute black lady pink polish and a big smile. We all had different entrees and everyone was satisfied. Great menu selections great drinks awesome bar above average selection of spirits. The food came out very fast the cream of crab soup is excellent. I had the California wrap it was delicious I chose the brussel sprouts as my side, they were delicious and crispy. The restaurant has an open floor design and has great parking….,…..State Fair was awesome food was great service was great server was very attentive. I am so sorry I did not take photos which is what I always do but my friend and I were so hungry I did not think about it. Unbelievable! We had the buffalo wings excellent and the crab dip, delicious to start. She then had the chicken Gyro I think,and I had the pastrami sandwich the fries were very good..service was fast waiter was attentive and the food was hot. We will be going back!!!!
