Becky, thank you for the selection and cooking advice today! Seared halibut cheeks with quartered swordfish over bucatini, sungold tomato white wine reduction with pistachhio gremolata. So fun that you had those today- thank you for the cooking tips!

My go to place in STL for seafood. Since Bob’s seafood closing I’ve been getting my fish from Starrs. They are friendly and very knowledgeable. And doesn’t hurt to always try something new. Ask them for cooking tips! While there grab some french butter and a bottle of wine

Surprisingly excellent prices. They often beat bug chains on the same item. The selection is fantastic and quality is top notch. What really made my drop in a great experience was how helpful the staff was.

They roast their own coffee comma and the quality is superb. The Sumatra is my favorite. They also have an amazing and unusual selection of cheeses, with incredibly knowledgeable people behind the counters to help you with your selection. What goes great with cheese? Wine! They also have an eclectic Selection of excellent wines, with one of the most knowledgeable wine experts I’ve met anywhere who runs their Saturday afternoon tastings.

Starrs is a fantastic shop, with a super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everything from the meat, seafood and cheese cases is amazing. The extensive wine and liquor selection along with crafted beer choices means there is always something tasty to try. Don’t miss out on their fresh roasted coffee beans.

Updated review after several years. They just get better and better here. The selection, quality and pricing of fresh seafood is astonishing for the middle of the country. If you want it they probably have it: even sushi grade hamachi and ahi. Lowest price on Faroe Islands salmon you will find. All freshly flown each each week multiple times and it shows. It is visually fresh looking and translucent where it should be. Filets not whole fish. They hand cut what you want. They also offer, among many things, clams, PEI Mussels, big dry scallops, shrimp, usually at least one kind of whole oyster in shell, all of them first class. The meats are all prime and hand cut for you. Lamb racks, Iberico pork chops (you must try!), multiple prime steaks with some locally sourced: beautiful. Then there is the cheese dept. which always stocks not only your favorites in high quality form, but new and interesting cheeses all the time, even some from Missouri. The great people behind the counter know so much and can guide you wherever you want to go on a cheese platter. Next to that is the charcuterie dept. with San Daniele prosciutto, olives, salamis and other specialty items. Believe me when I tell you that freshly and thinly cut San Daniele will put smiles on the faces of everyone you share it with. They have frozen items like moulard duck breast among other things and some made in house like pot pies and crab cakes (they sell lump crab for you to make your own crab cakes also). In dry goods they have great choices of coffee beans roasted in house, world class imported pastas from Italy with a superb toothy feel al dente, organic beans of all kinds, oils, vinegars, spice mixes, etc. The wine inventory is expertly curated. With not a lot of room they max out tasty selections at every price point and can tell you exactly what it will taste like, where it comes from, why its special etc. I really love this place and its people and the food. If you want to cook with high quality ingredients like we do, this is your kitchen larder. I make regular trips to stock up and I urge you to give them a try. You’ll be back. Get on their email list. And remember me when you taste that San Daniele for the first time!

Besides having a huge selection of wine, this is now our go-to place for onion dip. It is the ultimate potato chip dip! The only decent one we’ve found since our local brand was discontinued years ago.
