I miss St Roger Abbey’s old location! They moved an hour away from where I live, so imagine my delight when I saw them at West Dundee’s Heritage Fest? All their baked goods, especially the apple tart, is divine!

Great experience and love the bakery items. Not too sweet, just the way I love it. Great coffee and great environment to relax and enjoy the town and people.

Beautiful pastries and lovely service. Feels like you are in the French countryside. Staffed by nuns from France that do this work to raise money for other charitable work. They also sell an assortment of cheeses, teas, wines other savory food items, and even some toiletries.

A very pleasant and calm vibe. The food is very good and similar in taste to how you’d find in France :). The place has very good options on cake, pastries and baked goods.
I got the vanilla Creme puff and Leek Pastry. Both very delish.
Highly recommend visiting when you’re in the mood for something chill and at home feeling.
Thank you Sisters (Staff) for a welcoming time.

Very unique experience, you get served coffee by French Nuns!
I enjoyed the stop, loved the Austrian cookie I got, enjoyed the Berry Tart, the coffee was OK, and the decorations were amazing.
It seemed that all baked items are baked somewhere else, I thought the tart filling was fresh, but the crust seemed a bit stale! Cookie tasted delicious, but they are not freshly baked! The Nuns were very friendly!
Would go again for sure just for the unique experience!
You should also go to experience it, not for the freshly baked items, but for the ambiance and experience!
Oh, and they charge a percentage for credit card payments, very old school!!!

**Update 12/30/25:** This is one of the standout spots in the North Shore area. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the nuns are genuinely kind and friendly. The food is solid, definitely some of the best I’ve had around here. If I could give more than five stars, I would.
One thing I really appreciate about St. Roger Abbey is that it stays open until 7 PM most days. It’s not easy to find a café around here with evening hours, so this is a big plus. The inside has a cozy vibe, with some cool decor that makes the place feel comfortable to hang out in. It’s the kind of spot where you can take your time without feeling rushed.
I’ve seen a lot of five-star reviews about the pastries and the service, and I can’t disagree. The staff are down-to-earth and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. It’s refreshing to find a local place that mixes great food with a chill, friendly atmosphere.
Honestly, it’s a bit surprising we didn’t find this place sooner. We’re already looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu. If you’re in the area and need a good spot for coffee and something tasty, definitely worth checking out.

Very friendly nuns and super quality pastries, OMG never had any fruit tarts as fresh as theirs. I felt like their strawberry were hand picked the same day The coffee and latte were tasty service was great and they went above to let us have a great experience in beautiful downtown of Wilmette by staying pass their closing time on our first visit . They are great asset for the area. My wife and I stopped by twice during our visit and we highly recommend to who ever passing the area to check their store.
Update : Same great taste and friendly nuns

I got introduced to St Roger Abbey last year in Chicago’s ChristKindlMarket, this year had it delivered to home via USPS. No doubt that everything tastes fabulous & fresh. And this review is not only for the Macarons or other baked goodies but the personal care going into the packaging as well.
Thank You for everything!!
