Had a very odd experience here that made me feel uncomfortable as a Black women visiting a predominantly white city. Found a hair in my food and requested a new dish. The servers seemed flippant about the experience and did not take anything off of our bill. I am not confrontational enough to ask for a complimentary dish, but felt as if they should have offered to at least comp a cocktail under the circumstances. I felt as though they were unapologetic about the experience. For. $45 dish – I expected better treatment. Vibes were off, would not return.

We visited St. Jack a month or so ago. From the outside, the restaurant itself looked like a cool little cottage. They sat us at a nice table in the corner. The lighting was muted and the vibe was inviting and relaxing.

First, the waitress spilled the soda on my husband’s shirt, she did not bring wet towel or bring a new one until we asked. Second, the chicken dish was not fully cooked, we saw blood on the meat, we raised our concern to the same waitress, she had chef to recook the same dish and came back to us saying:” For the record, it was fully cooked.” If you are so certain that was fully cooked, why you recook the same one and brought it back it’s not red anymore, you should tell the chef to explain and ensure that it’s 100% cooked. We stated that we were celebrating something special, we did not feel being treated special, especially that soda $5 was on the check too. No way I’m going back there and waste $300+ for this experience!

Terrific service and wonderful food. We really enjoyed the deliciously smoky mussels, perfectly toasted baguette and the exceptional nutella filled Religieuse.

Some of the best food we have ever had. Although I would not recommend the escargot which was not very flavorful and not up to par with other dishes.

St. Jack is the second French restaurant we experienced, and honestly after dining at the very wonderful Le Pigeon I didn’t think I could be impressed, and I was wrong! Our dining experience at St. Jack was excellent, the food was delicious and so beautifully presented, the cocktails we had were refreshing (the weather that night was in the triple digits and we needed something to cool down) and crafted to perfection. We had the foie grass, the tuna crudo, the pateé, the special of the day, and of course we had to try the caviar, after all we were spoiling ourselves! Everything was remarkable, including the service, our waiter was knowledgeable and eager to answer our questions about the menu. I can’t wait to go back and take our friends!

Do NOT order the steak it was chewy and poor quality. Returned more than half my food and still paid for it. The service was below average, the appetizers were great but I would not recommend this place to anyone for sure. This was 2 separate orders of the jacobs ladder – I was in a party of 5)

St Jack is an amazing little slice of France in Portland. The care and attention that is put into the food is only superseded by the friendly and expert service. Their dishes are approachable to all, even those who are unfamiliar with French cuisine, and there is no pretentiousness – you are encouraged to be a newcomer and ask questions, creating a very welcoming experience.
