The restaurant has a classic vibe and is located in downtown Hingham with street parking. Reservations are done by the phone and are recommended. The service is great with the staff checking on our table frequently and small details such as replacing our silverware after appetizers before the main dishes.
Ordered the sourdough bread with a unique chive oil dip, the bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The poached pear salad was very full with a great vinaigrette and candied walnuts. I am really happy about the salmon. The ginger aioli with the hot honey gives a sweet and strong flavor of the salmon. Overall a great restaurant with amazing service.

Tonight my partner and I went to dinner and had an amazing dinner service. From the warm and inviting greeting at the door from Gus to the impeccable dinner service from the kitchen and Kaio, this restaurant hit the mark 100%. The food was cooked perfectly and the atmosphere was like having dinner with family. I loved seeing how Gus showed genuine interest in his guest and checked in on everyone. Highly recommend!

We went to Square Cafe last night to celebrate our anniversary, and everything was absolutely perfect! The food was awesome—beautifully presented and full of flavor. Our server Kyle provided top-notch service, super attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The entire staff was warm and welcoming, constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed.
It was such a great experience from start to finish. Highly recommend this place for any special occasion (or just a great night out)!

We had an exceptionally delightful dinner at the Square Cafe last Friday. The maitre d’ greeted us warmly and welcomed us to a wonderful table outside on the patio. He also checked in a few times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The wait staff was terrific – polite, attentive, very professional. We started with the mussels in a coconut saffron sauce – they were fresh and delicious, especially with fresh bread to dip in that exotic sauce. I had the seat bass, which was perfectly prepared and served over fingerling potatoes and snow peas. Really great. My husband had the melt-in-your-mouth ribeye, with an herb butter sauce, served with risotto and spinach – he loved it. Yummy cocktails, great ambiance, picturesque neighborhood. A rare and perfect dining experience.Thank you Square Cafe!

Very unimpressed with this place. Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my wife for our Anniversary. Place was not overly busy at all. Easily 8-10 open tables inside. We were greeted and seated, no problem. Water came shortly after. It was another 5 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us and was apparently our waiter as well. We were not seated in the bar area. He was busy making drinks and said he would be right with us. All the time there were 2 hosts, one of which caught my eyes more than a couple times, looking at us. I was hoping he would at least come take a drink order. Another 4-5 minutes went by and the bartender/ waiter came to take our order. He was pleasant and apologized for the wait. Which wasn’t totally his fault, the restaurant was probably understaffed. That didn’t excuse the poor customer service, in my old school eyes. No paying customer should go to a restaurant or bar and wait 10 minutes before your drink order is even taken. The food did come quick as we did not order an app. It was just mid to me. I had the California turkey club. I could have gotten the same version or better at a much less expensive restaurant. Just a plain white bread sandwich. Not even a traditional triple decker club. It was not tasty enough to have me go back, nor was my wife’s lack of seasoning, fried cod sandwich. Drinks were good, but again, nothing to make me want to go back for more.

The food here did not disappoint in the least. Be sure to ask for bread! It was crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, just out of the oven, and accompanied by a delicious dip. I had the Arcadian farm salad with salmon. The sweet corn and tomato flat bread was also yummy. Kids menu available.

My husband and I have been going to the Square Cafe for almost 20 years. It is our go to spot for special dinners because the service is excellent and so is the food. We always get the mussels to start which are delicious every time. The bartenders are great too and the cucumber basil martini is the best I’ve ever had. If you have room for dessert you have to try the crème brûlée

Incredible food and service. Great seafood offerings. The server was more than helpful regarding vegan options and took a lot of initiative to discover more where the menu may not have been so obvious.
Definitely returning. The mussels were my favorite. The bread is super-fresh and so delicious.

The sourdough bread is phenomenal. Loved spicy noodle entre, excellent cocktails. Coconut cream dessert has a surprisingly light, shortbread cake like crust. Service was great.
