Appetizers: wonton soup and red oak salad. Main: spaghetti Nero and Dry Aged Duck Breast. Dessert: Chocolate Budini and Toffee Butter Cake
Shout out to Sam for doing an excellent job taking care of us!!
World class meal !
Now onto the food itself. Every single dish served was at least a 9.5/10. The hamachi crisp was served with a sauce that struck the perfect balance between sweetness and savory, and pepper that added the perfect amount of kick. My wife’s sturgeon dish was absolutely phenomenal, and my pot roast was definitely one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. Even the deserts were a 10/10. After we paid the check, the hostess already had our coats ready prior to walking out the door. The meal is pricey, and the portions are modest, but this is the perfect demonstration of a quality over quantity dining experience. We will definitely be back!
THE GOOD: The only course I did like was desert. The honey & cream cake was excellent, albeit very sweet. Wonderful punchy pineapple flavors with a tres-leches-like cake. The “beeswax” ice cream it came with was rather flavorless (vanilla would make no difference), but it balanced the dish well.
THE BAD: Mafalde pasta tasted like Ragu. The $44 pork chop was extremely tough; its tamarind “sweet and sour” sauce was overbearing and presented some undesirable bitter notes. The sauce felt like a coverup for how poorly it was cooked. It would’ve benefited from more salt, and the portions for the 3 of us who ordered it were not consistently sized. The $12 pork chops sold by the Lions Club at New Brighton Stockyard Days are FAR SUPERIOR. The papaya slaw that accompanied it seemed like unripe fruit (very tough), and the 4 small fried yucca nibblers included were seriously “mid” (cornmeal batter – really?!). The creamy spinach side was really code for “cheese curds,” which were also “mid,” again in cornmeal(y?) batter (I’m sorry, but do beer-batter). The Bison tartare tasted like off-the-shelf mexican seasoning, and there were not enough chips to share it (gracefully) as an appetizer.
THE ETC: Service was good, atmosphere was nice. They should get larger water glasses so the staff don’t have to refill them so frequently; it got rather obnoxious after awhile.
Upon entrance, the environment feels open, with high ceilings, skylights, and natural light coming in. The staff was friendly and spaced out our meal perfectly.
We started with the complimentary bread and butter, a fresh sourdough, crispy and soft with whipped butter on the side. It was a nice way to start our meal.
We ordered their French 75, light sweet, and citrusy, and a classic Moscow Mule, both so delicious!
For starters we shared the Sweet Corn Gazpacho, which they so kindly divided into two separate bowls for us, it was soft and creamy, the crab was delicious and the cantaloupe helped balance the sweet and salty flavors. The oysters followed up and they were simple, fresh, and incredibly delicious, especially when adding a bit of the habanero sauce.
For mains we went with the Alaskan Halibut, soft and flaky, it was nicely complemented by mascarpone grits and tomato foam, one of the highlights of the night! The Spaghetti Nero was amazing the smaller portion was perfect for me. It was salty with the perfect hint of spicy tossed with delicious octopus and mussels then topped with a prawn. The Creamy Spinach Cheese Curds surprised us they were so fresh and delicate and paired perfectly with the creamy spinach, a great dish to share!
They nicely drop off little sweets to end the meal and cleanse your palate, which was a touch we appreciated.
To end the night we took home the Honey & Cream Cake. It was creamy, soft, and had the perfect hint of honey, the honey meringue melted in your mouth, and the beeswax ice cream perfectly paired with it.
Overall, Spoon and Stable has been one of the more memorable dining experiences I’ve had here in Minneapolis. I left extremely satisfied with everything we tried out and would recommend it to anyone interested in a more elevated dining experience.
The food is the real star—each dish is beautifully presented and layered with flavor. There’s immense care and creativity behind every plate.
Health Concerns:
Unfortunately, I need to address a concerning issue. Later that evening, I began experiencing significant stomach cramps, which persisted into the following morning. To my surprise, both my dining companions reported similar symptoms. We did share the dessert and a few cheese curds, which were the only common items consumed by all three of us. It’s unclear what caused these issues—whether it was one specific dish or a contamination of everything we had—but it’s definitely something to be cautious about.
Food and Service:
We had in several dishes, including:
– Fish
– Broccolini
– Fries
– Spaghetti Nero
– Potato Gnocchi
– Cream Spinach Cheese Curds
Each dish was delicious, We also shared a dessert that was a chocolate, whose name started with a “B.” While everything was enjoyable, I would like to point out a discrepancy with the champagne pricing; the menu listed the cheapest option at $13, but it was charged at $15.
Conclusion:
While I wholeheartedly recommend Spoon and Stable for its wonderful atmosphere and delicious food, but I wonder if anyone else got sick on 1/7/2026? I hope this feedback helps the restaurant address the potential health concern.
Everyone loved the starters! The hamachi crudo was well balanced. the bison tartare was fantastic with an great balance of acid, herbs, and perfectly seasoned. The prosciutto parma was a great intermingling of flavors and textures.
Everyone loved their mains. Our friend swooned over the rigatoni, and the tortellini was lite and rich at the same time. The pasta was perfectly cooked.
The lamb duo was deliciously prepared. The chops were luscious and beautifully matched with the pastilla that is north African spiced like. The cheese curds creamed spinach was a fun side and the Parm fries were perfectly prepared and seasoned.
The honey and cream cake was a triumvirate of liteness, creamy richness, and sweetness. The chocolate budino was excellent.
The service was great, very knowledgeable of the menu and gave great advice. The venue was a n open plan with great decor!
If you are in town this is an outstanding choice to patron!
We had a few appetizers with our main courses, in addition to dessert. Nothing we ordered was less than fantastic. The crudo was refreshing. The soup was complex with great textures. We loved the soft bits of squash w the crunchiness of the pepitas. The duck was prepared well and the wild rice was a great accompaniment. My wife ordered the fish which was prepared well. Although we were stuffed, we had to try dessert which unfortunately was the only thing I remembered to take a picture of. I indulged in an after dinner non-alcoholic cocktail and my wife had something similar to Tres Leches. The name is escaping me but she said it was delicious!
