I learned about Sparta Dairy because most people drive by it almost every day since it’s near Engerman Field, which is a nice area with tables, a big open field, and a creek out back. Sparta Dairy itself is a pretty small place with lines of people going outside of the store half the time, but I think the ice cream makes it worth it. The street it is located on isn’t super busy, but there is definitely a good amount of cars that drive on it since it’s right in town. Sparta Dairy can fit around 10 cars in its parking lot, but even if they’re all full, there are a bunch more parking spaces by Engerman Field, which is right next to it.
The menu has very pure and tasty ice cream that comes with many different toppings of your choice. One of my favorites is a Diary Mixer with chocolate ice cream and M&Ms. The menu consists of hard and soft serve ice cream that can come in a cup or cone that comes in sizes of kids, regular, or large, or there is a “mini soft serve”. There are also Diary Mixers which come in either a regular or large. It is soft serve ice cream blended with one topping. Other foods include Spartan Shakes (milkshakes) that come in a regular or large, and then there is a Sprinkle Sundae that comes with one topping, whipped cream, and a cherry, which also comes in a regular or large. The ice cream isn’t the cheapest but also not too overly priced, with normal hard/soft serve ice cream starting at $4 for a kid, $5 for a regular, and $6 for a large. The Diary Mixers, Spartan Shakes, and Sprinkle Sundaes are all $6 for a regular and $7 for a large and $1 for any additional toppings. Some toppings for a dollar include hard shell, hot fudge, a waffle cone, or an edible bowl. There are also ice cream cakes and ice cream sandwiches. Also, taxes are included.
Overall, Sparta Dairy is an amazing place with great food and employees and even a great atmosphere. I honestly don’t think I have any complaints and would give it a 5/5 stars. The ice cream is great quality and way better than store bought, both hard and soft ice creams are. The workers there are also very nice and I don’t think any of the workers have ever been rude to me considering I’ve gone there around 15 times. They also usually work relatively fast and get me my ice cream very quickly. Sparta Dairy’s regular work hours are 12 PM to 8:30 PM Monday through Thursday, 12 PM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday, and 12 PM to 8:30 PM Sunday. On weekends, Sparta Dairy is usually pretty crowded and can take up to 10 minutes to get your ice cream, but that isn’t usually too common. I always come here if it is a hot day and need a nice refresher.
