The place is decorated nicely with the history of the business on a wall when you walk in. They have a HUGE bbq pit placed outside front that is really cool to see.
With all the other BBQ places around town, this will not be my first choice next time. Although their sides were pretty delicious!
The entire staff was super friendly and ready to assist. As I went through the line I was given plenty of recommendation and was even offered a sample of a pork steak; which turned out to be a pork butt sliced into steaks, seasoned, and thrown on the smoker…it was incredible!
I ordered brisket and 2 sides…and I was AMAZED! Instead of reaching into a warmer with meat that had been sliced hours ago (hello Bill Miller), the brisket was thrown on the cutting board and perfectly sliced on the spot!
I sailed through the line and couldn’t believe the feast being assembled before me.
Checkout was efficient and friendly and the entire restaraunt was spotlessly clean. The cashier even told me that she’d rather be at work because she liked hanging out with her coworkers.
I grabbed my condiments, fresh onion and jalapeños and found a seat. The food was delicious! Part way through my meal the GM stopped by the table to check on my meal; turns out it was the same guy that was working the line when I ordered my food!
Refreshing to see leaders who lead from the front I stead of hiding in their office…its not surprising that the entire store runs like a Swiss watch…everyone seemed to love their jobs and did them well!
Hats off to the entire Southside team in Leander, this is how BBQ SHOULD be!
I got a half Chicken.
A Jalapeño Sausage.
Brisket.
Pinto Beans.
Potato Salad.
The Chicken was really Oily but great flavor.
Ditto for the Sausage. Tastes great, but Oily.
Brisket was great.
Potato Salad needed Salt and was overpowered by Celery.
The beans were good, but, I stabbed the roof of my mouth with a bone shard, from probably a pork bone used for flavoring?
The service is slowed down by these tickets the line workers write everything down on for your Order.
All the other BBQ place just trust the Cashier to visibly see and ring up what’s on your tray.
SO WHATS THE PROBLEM HERE?
My Takeaway bag had Plasticware, Napkins, Condiments, 2 bbq sauce types.
Well done on that regard.
I think once they get the Staff experienced and some things tweaked it will be great here.
4 Stars for now.
It is my neighborhood area. I will be back.
Give it a try.
Convenient to get too.
Parking is good.
Interior is great.
Give them a shot.
We do enjoy BBQ and tried the family pack to get a little bit of everything, and I added the baby back pork ribs. There were plenty of leftovers to take home for a family of four. Be sure to grab the banana pudding and don’t hesitate to grab a peach cobbler(?) with ice cream!
Not BBQ nerd, just a meat eater.
Pros: the sausage was 9/10. I know they’re known for it and it delivered. The bbq baked potato was delicious. Huge and it had that perfectly cooked waxy potato texture I love. They did not skimp on toppings. I will definitely order this or a sausage sandwich if we do come back. Went through the drive thru and the girl who took our order was lovely. No complaints on service!
Cons: the moist brisket was the driest moist brisket I’ve ever had. I was so bummed. I did not like the potato salad or the coleslaw. I’m. It super picky about my sides but both of these just missed. I don’t know what’s in the bbq sauce but REALLY dislike it. It smells like cinnamon and it was just everything I don’t want my bbq sauce to be. The worst part of the meal…the blackberry cobbler. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten, maybe in my life. It tasted like over baked cake but it was still also gummy and had this overpowering fake vanilla smell kind of like a cheap candle. I actually spit it out. Last dislike gut a weirdly big one for me was the pickles. I love pickles…a lot. These are the saltiest and yuckiest pickles. It was also very expensive. We paid $20 for a combination plate and there was about 6 slices of sausage and 4 pieces of very dry moist brisket in there. I know meat is pricey but geez
Will I be back? Maybe but I will not ask specifically to eat here. I really tried but it just didn’t hit for me.
