Southside Grill is unmistakably a local neighborhood American diner. No signature gimmicks, no flashy concepts, just a steady hum of regulars and families keeping weekend breakfast traditions alive. And they do stay busy, especially on weekends, so expect a wait list during peak breakfast hours.

Service is where this place shines. Despite a packed dining room, my order hit the table in under 10 minutes. They’ve clearly mastered the art of turn-and-burn, and it’s done with friendly, efficient hospitality that keeps things moving without feeling rushed.

A few pro tips if you’re visiting: skip the breakfast potatoes and go straight for the hash browns, they’re the better play. Their skillets and waffles are also solid choices, and portions across the board are generous. Come hungry.

Now for the not-so-great. The breakfast potatoes tasted like rough-chopped leftover baked potatoes which is fine if done well but they landed pretty underwhelming. The biscuits were underdone, and the gravy leaned more toward liquid roux than proper sausage gravy. Most disappointing part, nothing on the plate felt seasoned.

Bottom line: Southside Grill delivers exactly what it promises, a classic neighborhood diner experience with fast service and big portions. Stick to the hash browns, aim for the skillets or waffles, and you’ll have a better time. It’s not about culinary fireworks here, it’s about keeping the local breakfast rhythm alive, even if a little salt would go a long way

This place was a hidden treasure! We went around 10AM, and there was about a 20 minute wait. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked and were so welcoming and kind the entire time from when we walked in to our table to checking out. Now, it was busy, we had to wait in the doorway because everything as full, even the bar. We got sat in about 20 minutes, then it took maybe 20 minutes for our food to come out. That’s pretty impressive to me as someone who has worked in restaurants.

Now, the food. It was absolutely amazing. It reminded me of a home cooked meal. The home style potatoes were amazing, the egg and diced ham wasn’t runny, and the sourdough toast was so delicious. Everything was massive portions! The prices are some of the best prices I have seen around town.

I love that they have so many options for breakfast, from sweet to savory. Healthy to not so healthy. Options for literally everyone on the menu! Can’t go wrong!

I absolutely will be returning and highly recommend.

Awesome brunch! Got a seat right away and super fast service, all surprising with how busy they were on a Sunday. Coffee tasted… weird, but everything else was delicious. Ordered chocolate chip pancakes from the kids menu, country fried steak, and monte christo sandwich. We will for sure be back!

I stopped in at Southside Grill this morning and had one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. I ordered three egg whites and three reindeer sausage links, and everything came out hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The flavors were on point, and the portion was just right.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel welcoming. The restaurant was clean and had a comfortable, local vibe.

If you’re looking for a solid breakfast spot in Anchorage, Southside Grill delivers every time. I’ll definitely be back!

What a great spot. It was my first time there and it did not disappoint. The food was so good. I had the omelet with reindeer sausage and the homestyle potatoes. The best part was the staff. They were so fun and gave sarcasm back when it was giving, playfully of course. I loved the bottled hot sauce so much I bought one to bring home to Tucson with me. I consider Anchorage home and will most certainly add Southside Grill to my list of must stops.

We loved this place when we lived in town and are so happy to get to visit! The food is fantastic (we love the skillets) and it’s the best small town diner vibe around. Love the family that runs it. They are so cheerful and always great service.
