Stopped in for lunch today on a random trip to Clinton. Old school style BBQ joint with the detached dinning room. Serves fresh chopped pork bbq and hand battered fried chicken along with southern staple sides like mashed potatoes, yams, greens, and slaw. One of the best Eastern Carolina style BBQ sandwiches I’ve ever had!!!

Drive through and walk-in service moved quickly. Busy lunchtime service today. I assume its that way as a routine.

In business since the middle 1980’s!!!

We spent around $50 combined here for 3 people and ordered a sampling of the BBQ special, large fish, chicken tenders, banana pudding and sides including fries, hush puppies, and green beans.

We had higher expectations for this place due to the high reviews and business relative to other places in this area, but I have to say the food here was average at best. The chicken was soggy, the bbq was slightly dry, the fish was run of the mill and everything else was average. For the price you pay you won’t be disappointed, but don’t come here expecting a Southern BBQ gem.

Any time I’m in Clinton I always make an effort visit. I do recommend calling ahead and picking up your order especially during “peak” hours. They are known for having a long line which will take a while for them to work though. On-site parking is available, some behind the building. Also, a building beside the restaurant is available for customers to sit and eat.

I ordered:
– Small Fish Plate
– Cole Slaw
– Fries
– Banana pudding
– Drink (16 oz)

My total came to $13.63. I was able to split this into two meals.

The food … no seasoning (not even salt) was on the fries. The fish by itself is bland as well – I usually hit it with some hot sauce/tarter sauce to spruce it up. The fish will have bones FYI. The coleslaw is finely chopped and juicy (which I like). But the banana pudding was a huge disappointment. It tasted like the store-bought banana jello mixture with cookies and bananas. I 100% expected this to be homemade.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was a little girl ALWAYS getting the small fish plate! I really wanted to give 4 starts – but the banana pudding took them down a notch! They definitely have stayed consistent with their food. Even though certain items needed some seasoning, I would still recommend this restaurant BUT NOT THE BANANA PUDDING.

Stopped by this establishment on the evening of Saturday, November 8, 2025 around 4:30pm. Super friendly staff working the Drive-Thru window, continuously apologized for the long wait & repetitiveness confirming our order due to a new Point of Sales system. Assured me that our order was correct, repeated several times and had the information written down correctly. Unfortunately, the 12 pieces of Chicken “ALL White” Meat that I paid an extra charge for was inaccurate. The box included Thighs & Legs. I tried to call but the vms mentions telemarketers, press #1 then disconnects. The establishment was closed on Sunday. I’m most frustrated & disappointed after being reassured the order was correct. Especially after waiting patiently in the long drive-thru line. I did not want to prolong the line, so I took the young lady’s word for it and did not check before driving off. My son ended up eating the legs, but unfortunately noone eats Thighs. Please do better, integrity goes a long way.

Stopped in yo get some fried chicken and decided to take it home. Going inside was way faster than the drive through. Chicken was juicy yet crispy but the sides were standout..beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Fresh, homemade and just delish. Saved my crispy hushpuppies for dessert. We definitely will be back.

I live in Beaufort, NC but have family in Fayetteville, NC. This restaurant is on my route back and forth. I have passed it a hundred times noticing a huge line for the takeout. I made it my mission to try this place on my way home. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken with cole slaw and potato salad. The lady taking my order was friendly and welcoming. It came out hot and fresh. I guess because the chicken pieces were on the smaller end of sizes, it was actually a 3 piece meal (one of the pieces was hidden under the thigh piece). The chicken skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The coleslaw and potato salad was home made and delicious. The hush puppies were great. I will be back and I will try the barbecue next. Highly recommend!

This is the second time I have had southern-style . The first time I felt the same way about the food as I did this time but I thought I would give him a second chance. I ordered barbecue for which was very good, Fried Chicken which tasted like it did the first time I had it as if it was cooked in old grease. Way too overdone and except for the old grease flavor it had no flavor whatsoever. Coleslaw was good, beans were good, and the collardso were very bland.
Ordering through the drive-thru was quick and the two ladies at the window were very nice.
BTW, I got there around 5:30 p.m.. They close at 6:00 . Maybe if you do decide to go go in the afternoon when the grease is likely to be fresh and clean.

Not what you would expect, order in one building and then go next door to another building and sit military style, fabulous concept. Great food and the line waiting only testify to the quality

One of my favorite places. Lately the chicken fingers are shrinking in size, but not price! It frustrating to get an 8 piece and it looks like 5.

Expect to know what you want. There is a warning ⚠️ We ordered through drive thru and drive back around to the picnic area. Similar to Cook out experience with sophistication at certain levels
