I recently spent time in McRae for work. I ate at Southern Star twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch I had the blue plate special. For dinner I had a steak. Both meals were excellent. Service was exceptional both times. I don’t if I’ll find myself back in McRae anytime soon but if I do, I’ll definitely be back.

Mmm, Mmm Wow, just what I needed after a long day. Staff amazing,well managed, attentive. Steak is fantastic, Ribeye, juicy, fresh and not overcooked and So Tasty. Sides I got Spinach and Veggies, Top steakhouse Quality. Side salad with, got to get house dressing. Fast and professional, I am so blessed to find places and people like this. Seated quickly got our drink order and then food. Great waitress,very kind and efficient. I ate the southern star salad and it was delicious. We eat there everything were near.

My husband and I visited Little Okmulgee State Park to see the Christmas lights. We stopped here afterwards for a bite to eat. I was expecting hamburgers and fries, junk food, or maybe a house salad made of lettuce. I was so wrong. This restaurant is a hidden gem. I couldn’t believe the amazing menu. I had the backend chicken and my husband had the catfish. The portions are large, so large we had to take half of it home. The staff were funny and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. I will definitely be back. The desserts are worth mentioning also. They are all so good it was hard to choose. I think everything about this place is fantastic.

The food was good except for my husband’s ribeye which was supposed to be med. It was so chared on outside he couldn’t eat it. Sweet potato fries was good but couldn’t get the burnt taste out to enjoy them. Even his shrimp was burnt in places. Love the bread and butter and my grilled salmon was good with the loaded potato. Just really disappointed in his plate which was a special last night for 25.00 and he couldn’t eat it.

This is a great little restaurant. The “Blue plate special” is still alive here at a great price. Eat a belly meal of good old fashion southern country cooking for less than any fast food place. The staff was very friendly and swrvice was fast and friendly. And the desert included in the daily special were great. It was so good during our week-long stay, we went back the next day.
