Waitress was amazing, very polite, attentive, and respectful. Food on the other hand was not. I ordered a Grilled Mahi platter ($34) with the expectation of fair seasoning and strong flavor, this was the opposite. The fish was underseasoned and nearly flavorless, it didnt even taste like they used real butter. The fries were decent, but the tasted like they had been made at the start of the day and served at 5pm several hours later. My mother who was with me ordered the Seafood Extravaganza ($36) and the spaghetti arrived overcooked, the white wine sauce tasted watered down, the tomatoes were thrown in seemingly uncooked, as well as the spinich. I cannot recommend coming here for the food, however the serving staff are nice and they offer a bar, so in my opinion if you come here going for drinks exclusively is probably your best bet. Or using their parking lot.

We visited Southern Salt restaurant for the first time since we got recommended for pet friendly place by the rest area visitor center. And we were not disappointed. Plenty parking outside and we got outside seating right away, our waiter Cutter was amazing, professional and friendly. The foods were fast and delicious. From hush puppies to Captain’s platter. We sure will return again. Thank you for great service and high standard and made our trip to Morehead City even better!!

Wonderful views of the water and boats, and egrets! The seafood chowder was excellent. The scallops were good although a little overseasoned. Great place to sit and visit with family.

My parents drove from the county over to spend the day with my daughter & I. We called the restaurant first & the owner let us know his son caught Wahoo just the day before. Crabcakes here had meat in them (unlike many other restaurants that put a bunch of other filling in them). Portions were a good size & our waitress met all of our needs. We had the option of sitting inside or outside where there was a musician. We were able to watch all the boats go by, check out the minnows & enjoy the smell of salt water.

I live part time in the area and have frequented this place often. The owner used to own Sammy’s a few blocks away and was the best place to eat in Morehead. This past winter I got some of the best oysters and shrimp I have ever had from here. However, On this visit we ordered a half pound of steamed shrimp that was awesome as an appetizer. For our main entree’s I ordered the flounder and my wife the mahi. Both of our fish were horrible The flounder was dry, over cooked, very old and rubbery. My wife’s was the same. It was completely inedible. We were offered “fresh” fish for a replacement. I should have gotten the “Fresh” fish to begin with. We both declined as I felt it would be the same and felt like it would not have been much of an improvement. The manager took $7.49 off of $63 in entrees that we could not eat. If not for that I would have returned and not left this review. As a result of being charged nearly full price for a meal you cannot eat. I cannot recommend eating here as you will be charged for food you cannot eat and as a result I will never return and need to warn others. Avoid this place at all cost. Any other option in the area would be an improvement. It is a shame to see a once awesome place go down just as the old Capt. Bills it replaced did. The waitress was very friendly and apologetic.

Stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and we’re super glad we decided to eat lunch here!
Everything we had was amazing!! I had the oysters raw and they were very fresh and almost as big as my palm! The seafood chowder was really good and hearty, and the portion was more than enough! My husband was blown away by the crab cakes!
This restaurant is located by the water and it was so relaxing looking out while eating our lunch. Oh, and there’s a nice little ice cream shop just a few steps away, called Morehead Gulf Dock!
Definitely gonna go back to this place <3

I ate here for a late lunch while on vacation in the area. The seafood is super fresh here- a little pricey however I feel like you get what you pay for. I had the buffalo shrimp for an entrée and the clam chowder as an appetizer. Probably some of the best clam chowder I have ever had. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. I would definitely give them a five out of five for service. They have some very nice seating with a view of the water and I bet it gets pretty packed during prime meal times. There weren’t many people there when I went however I went in between lunch and dinner. I would definitely come back here if I was in the area again!

Very disappointed, we were here a week ago and everything was wonderful. I have an onion intolerance and we always tell the waitress, so they can notify the kitchen. I truly think the cook thought it was their mission to mess with my meal, it was loaded with scallions, the waitress said he was in a mood. They did nothing to correct my meal or even offer a discount for their mistake. If we come back it would only be for drinks to enjoy the Sunday entertainment.
We usually give places a second chance, but since the waitress was aware of the cooks issues, we won’t come back for food.
