Sat at the bar with a group of three today and had a great experience. The bartenders were attentive and friendly without being overbearing, and the food was excellent. Everything came out quickly and was well done. Definitely looking forward to coming back soon.

Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Customer service was fine as well. I dont appreciate, however, being asked if I want more bread and not being told it another charge. A heads up would have been nice. Also, no fountain drinks so you have to pay per can.

Check out our rundown of this restaurant and other Black-owned establishments for Black history month on IG @EatGeorgia.

Pictured: open-faced fried chicken biscuit, SoNat Classic, boiled peanut hummus with Johnny Cakes, and the Hangover Bowl.

Listening-room vibes with DJ Lyris.

We’d love an invitation to collab and share the dinner experience with our EG followers.

Lovely downtown atl eatry. I ate at the bar by choice. I enjoyed chatting with the bartender/hostess/server.(I arrived at the end of the brunch session on a Saturday. The kitchen was about ton closed to prep for the dinner croud. Only 2 other pair in the space!)She was very knowledgeable about the beverage & liquor menu. She made my drink to my specification, allowing a sample along the way. She prep my 2nd drink to go as I was heading for the airport & Uber was on it’s way. Thank you!

Great food with excellent servings and flavors that pair well together. Atmosphere is nice too, with great music selections and nice warm lighting.
The service left a bit to be desired, our waiter (white brunette lady with tattoos) was rude and short with us for no reason. Hated answering simple questions about menu items – it was our first time there. She was the worst part of the experience by far. It seemed like others were getting annoyed with her rudeness as well. She barely came to check on our table or the food, and would reply in one word answers. I think her name was Catherine. But regardless, worst waiter for such a good restaurant overall. I’d come back (but hopefully she’s not there).

Expect to see a large man wearing headphones and a smile standing at the end of the food line approving every meal before it hits your table, that’s the chef (Duane) who curates every dish on the menu. The food was not overdone, not over complicated and full of familiar flavors in an upscale presentation. The drinks were great and the service was too. A great dining experience for locals and visitors who want a taste of the South’s ingredients with an upscale rendition. Menu highlights (for me) were the mussels with collards, pork belly (or pork chops) and the cauliflower (absolute must). Get in before space runs out!

The food continues to be very mid to me here but the service and atmosphere is stellar. The desserts did it for no one and the fried oysters didn’t come out hot. I’ve been 4 times now and I’m still left underwhelmed.

I was very impressed by the food, service and atmosphere at Southern National. It was a great date night spot and would be great for a group of friends that want to enjoy an excellent meal. I also noted the bar looked like a lovely spot for an impromptu dinner out. The bread and ribs were AMAZING…I want the ribs every day of the week. Our mains were fantastic and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend trying out southern national!

Everything was excellent! Top tier! The service and food were superb. My friends and I shared our dishes and we all agreed that each was delectable. Chef Duane Nutter even came to our table and signed his cookbook for us.

Love! Love! Love this restaurant! The food is top notch. From the cocktails, to the amazing wait staff, to the fab interior, this is definitely a spot you need to run to if you’re in Atlanta. Also, before you leave make sure to grab Chef’s cookbook.
