This place never fails. The food always tastes amazing and it’s ALWAYS piping hot when I get it. I eat here every week. The sticky shrimp, sweet potato cornbread, collard greens and smoked turkey leg, and the Mac and cheese. And they sent me an extra piece of cornbread. The bear didn’t stand a chance.

10/8/2025-Hello my friends, it’s me again the picky eater!!! I have been trying very hard to somehow make it to this Soul Food restaurant. It took a while, because I don’t eat out a lot and this Restaurant is in Meriden, Ct. I had gone by this restaurant many times, but the business hours were not conducive to my schedule. Anyway, let’s talk about the food!! My husband and I ordered fried chicken dinner, smothered pork chop dinner ( my husband wanted two), and the chopped pork dinner came with two sides too. We chose the collard greens and Mac and cheese. The cornbread was extra($$$$). The fried chicken dinner was very good ( chicken could use a bit more salt, but the hot sauce took care of that. My husband loved everything. I didn’t like the chopped pork that I tried, but I have never liked chopped pork. I do think it was made correctly( my memories of my Family’s Concord, North Carolina meals). I also was turned off and wouldn’t try the smothered pork chops. The gravy was too dark. It was not visually pleasing to me. I also was confused with the cornbread that cost so much. I don’t know. Maybe I was missing something but for the price it was less than a quarter inch thick. I’ve never seen cornbread that tiny before if you look in the picture, that was a little piece of the cornbread. The cons and these are a big thing to me was when you come in the front door the running carpet was disgusting. The floors were sticky and greasy. I went to the bathroom and it was also filthy and disgusting my feet stuck to the floor and you could hear it crunch as I walked down the hallway, although the food was good, My Husband loved everything. I on the other hand loved almost everything. But I would not go back because of the grease buildup on the floor and the runners. They also need to work on the cleanliness of the bathroom. The owner was there, she couldn’t have been any nicer. I loved everything about her and how she was extremely accommodating and attentive to us as we ate. We spent about $90 including tip, which to me is very high for this particular type of restaurant . But, keep in mind we had about three dinners and one extra side of pork chop.

This place is over rated. They dont have any offers thru phone numbers they have no offers thru coupons I spent 86 dollars for food that wasn’t even made correct in my take out box. They dont even give the corn bread in your dinner it is considered a” side” this lady is trying to get as much money as she can through her restaurant when you go there they dont have half of what you see on the menu. Then when I call next Day to say hey” my food wasn’t prepared as it should have been , they say nope I wont give you the cabbage you asked for we need to go through cameras ….. another day.. omg. So the food wasn’t tasty enough for us to come back again for 86 $ for three of us to eat a buffet style food that is over priced and no taste . Thank you anyway. On top of it they wanted me to come in during my work hours 12 noon the next day. So now 2 days later for green beans amd cabbage. And never mind me asking for the green beans….this place has no respect for the public who keeps them running. Plus the customers while eating so rude are talking crazy about people as they walk in. Just not a good vibe at all. Ag least and apology would have surfised instead of talking about cameras and giving food out for free and suggesting im the problem .

If I could leave a 10 star I would! My daughter has been searching for some delicious, savory, well seasoned soul food and we found the place! Everything was nice and hot and fresh, the corn bread was so moist it melted in my mouth! God bless the person that cooked it, it was definitely made with love! I am so happy we found you. I had the whiting fish and my daughter had the sticky chicken with mac and cheese and the yams omG so so delicious. can’t wait to try the rest. Looking forward to trying the sweet potato cornbread.

Ok, First off the mac and cheese got no flavor. We orded chicken tenders as my wife is bitting into her tender she notices a BONE! Which she could have chocked ON! Shame on you cooks who cant cut a chicken TENDER correctly you leave BONE its unreal. The collard greens are very mushy no flavor the yams were OK the french fries were hard and stale tasting almost like freezer burnt. We spent our hard working money into this establishment for our dinner and never again. My kids also said i can cook better than that! I will be eating somewhere else next time!

Literally love the Food..the only thing is that it says it’s open at 12pm, but it isn’t. Atleast today, I arrived at 12:15pm and waited until 12:32pm, and called 3 times, I even saw someone walk by and try to enter but they were still closed.

I am not looking to bash yall, but I do have to point this out because I was looking forward to getting some food today for lunch and my break is almost over.

My boyfriend and I stopped for lunch and we loved everything. I had the fried chicken, fries, and mac and cheese. He had the smothered fried pork chop over white rice with yams and mac and cheese. Everything was fresh, steaming hot and seasoned perfectly. Not to mention great music while you dine inside. Can’t wait to return

Been in Meriden 5/6 years and been looking for some yummy soul food. And this place hit every spot. First time there.
Flavored the homemade taste like mama was in the kitchen hit home.
The owner asking is how the food as we finished eating made it so comfortable.
Cozy place to seat and eat too.
Again every single thing we got was good!!

My boyfriend and I drove all the way from Danbury, CT to try this restaurant after he saw it on TikTok and let me tell you, it was so worth the drive! Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The cornbread was warm, fluffy, and buttery pure perfection. The fried chicken and sticky wings were seasoned just right, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside . And the mac & cheese? It tasted just like Thanksgiving dinner creamy, cheesy, and full of love.

The service was just as amazing as the food! Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. You can tell they really care about what they’re serving and the experience they’re giving their customers.

We’ll definitely be coming back this spot is a hidden gem and 100% worth the trip!

We were visiting the area after attending an event at a nearby sunflower field. There’s plenty of free parking and other stores nearby to check out (and walk off all of the food you eat).
Everything we ordered was delicious and true to soul food freshness and seasoning. There is plenty of seating in a clean spacious dining room. I appreciate how the space is taken care of.
Danni (Danielle) is such a warm, personable woman who enhanced the already positive experience. Everyone we encountered was “down home” kind which is encouragement to return in the future. Thank you.
