First time here and I’ll ne coming back soon. Everything was cooked to perfection. Got Fried Okra for appetizer and the Fried Catfish for sides I got the Collared Greens and Jalapeño Corn. The Green had such good flavor and the Corn was creamy with just the right amount of heat. Catfish was super crisp but still nice and moist. Only fall back was Appetizer and Main dish came out at the same time.

We tried wings last night with sweet potatoes and cole slaw along with corn bread. My friend also tried the fried okra. The food was great! Meals came in a basket and plastic utensils but it makes left overs fast and ready. An older building but clean and nicely decorated. We will be making return trips!

Incredible. Im just going to say it now, the Philly cheese steak egg rolls and collard greens are on another level. The fried chicken tenders are crispy and juicy. Not even close to being dry. If you are fan of sauces. The barbq mixed with hot sauce on anything you want is insane.

This is a Family Owned Gem. The atmosphere is nice and casual with booths and tables as well. The service was great, never felt forgot about. The food, the food was delicious!! The portions are big you wont go hungry. Fresh, and full of flavor we will be back. This is a Must Stop if your in Des Moines and craving some smakin soul food..

OKAY LET TALK ….. I cannot believe I’ve lived in Urbandale for 2 years and just discovered Good Eats—and it’s literally right around the corner from me. This place is a TRUE hidden gem.
We ordered about 30 minutes before closing, and everything was absolutely AMAZING. We had two catfish meals—perfectly fried, well seasoned, and fresh. My husband had the mac & cheese and spaghetti, and that spaghetti is hands down the best I’ve had in a long time.
I had the catfish with greens (made with turkey), green beans with potatoes, okra, and WOW… those greens hit EVERY spot. The Philly steak egg rolls were unbelievable—crispy, flavorful, and packed.
The quality, flavor, and care put into the food—even right before closing—says everything about this place. Worth every single cent.
I will absolutely be back (probably next week ). If you love REAL soul food, don’t miss this spot.

Random stop and might have found a hidden gem! Honestly outside and even inside was a little questionable but we gave it a shot.. Service was phenomenal, and the food was delicious!! My wife and I had the “wing dings” traditional wings. They were a tad small but got 8 of them and 2 sides for only $15! The wings were crispy and juicy! Nothing mind blowing but better than many places we have been to for wings. I had the collard greens and turkey for the side (x2) and my wife got the green beans with potatoes and mac and cheese. All the sides were great! Kid got a strawberry cake for dessert and said it was good as well.
Staff was super friendly and more than one person stopped by to see if we needed anything MULTIPLE times!
Oh… and free warm buns while ya wait!!
If you’re in the area looking for something different.. definitely give this a shot! They even have catfish which I’ll be trying next time!

OMG, 10/10! I didn’t care for the cornbread—a little dry—but the rest made up for it. Go support this restaurant. The food was hot and fresh, and the portions are over the top; you definitely get your money’s worth.
