My husband and I ate at the Southern Craft on a Tuesday evening on our drive from Chicago back to VA.
The restaurant is located in a strip mall in Parkersburg and easy to find. It is rather small–approximately 12-15 tables and a bar area that sat about 10 people. There were no tables available (we had neglected to make a reservation), but we were invited to sit at the bar.

David was our bartender and our server and he was amazing! He was friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu, their specialties and he made some great cocktails. We were really excited to see a cocktail containing Pimms, a gin-based liquor flavored with various spices and orange-flavoring that we had discovered while traveling in England, on the menu. David made us two Pimm’s Cups, which were Pimms, lemon-lime soda, mint, orange slices, and cucumbers–they were refreshing and delicious!

We decided to choose our appetizers off of the Tuesday evening specials menu, and started our meal with a bowl of the lobster bisque and the meatballs served over hummus and topped with tzatziki sauce. The lobster bisque was some of the best lobster bisque that we have ever had–full of large pieces of lobster in a flavorful, creamy sauce. The meatballs were amazing–Greek flavoring topped with the tzatziki sauce.

We chose the crabcake and sea bass combination at David’s recommendation, and we were so glad that we did. Wow–they were both amazing! The crabcake was full of crab (instead of “filler” which is often the case at restaurants) and the sea bass just melted in your mouth. It was served over polenta and wilted spinach, which was a nice side dish for those entrees.

Our only disappointment was the dessert (which we chose to take back to our hotel). We were between the salted caramel double chocolate brownie and the salted caramel bread pudding. We went with the bread pudding, but we felt that the base (which is always a large, glazed donut at Southern Craft) was too sweet and also did not completely absorb the salted caramel liquid topping, so it was a little dry. We will definitely go with the double chocolate brownie next time–we should have stayed with our first choice!

We would highly recommend Southern Craft if you are in Parkersburg! Great service and great food are always a winning combination! You will not be sorry, and we would highly suggest that you sit at the bar if David is the bartender when you visit. Make sure to make reservations if you would like to sit at a table!

We had an amazing experience at Southern Craft Restaurant and Bar in Parkersburg, West Virginia. We never expected to find such authentic Creole Southern cuisine in the area, but this place absolutely blew us away. The 4.9-star rating? Fully deserved.

On our first night, we tried the shrimp and grits (incredible), a perfectly cooked sea bass, and lamb chops with a pecan crust that were to die for. We were so impressed that we actually left another restaurant the next night just to come back here—and we were just as blown away the second time.

The service was outstanding. Our bartender, originally from Louisiana, gave us excellent drink and food recommendations and added so much to the overall experience with his hospitality and expertise.

If you’re in Parkersburg for any reason, don’t let the modest exterior fool you—this place is a culinary gem. Five out of five stars, without hesitation. Highly recommended.

I love Southern Craft. We’ve been several times now and everything is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere is such a vibe. Mattie had been my bartender or server a handful of times he’s just wonderful. Tonight I had the short ribs, my partner had the Cajun Red Snapper and we shared several of the appetizers around the table. All around wonderful experience.

We have been here several times and have loved it each and time. Food is fantastic. Good service. It is usually busy and you will probably have to wait. It is 100% worth the wait. The Chilean sea bass was great. I have had grouper here and it was great. The shrimp and grits and the shrimp pasta are fantastic. Highly recommend the bread puddings for dessert. Our favorite local restaurant. It is every bit as good as the fancy places we have eaten in Charleston, SC which is a renowned food city.

Amazing memorable meal! We were visiting the area from near San Diego and walked in expecting a good meal, but we walked out having experienced the best meal we’ve had in the United States in years. Let me start out by saying we are not foodies. We don’t live for amazing food, but can certainly appreciate it when it presents itself. We started off with shrimp and grits. The grits had a white cheddar flavor but the flavor of the brown sauce the shrimp was in was just amazing. Again, we are not foodies, but we both stopped our conversation and just enjoyed the flavors. Then I had the crabcakes, which were one of the top two I’ve had in my life. My wife had the Creole fettuccine Alfredo which was also a delight. The flavors were really remarkable. We actually saved room for dessert because of how amazing the food was up to that point. We ordered the banana bananas foster bread pudding which was one of the best desserts of my life. We eat out regularly, but are not blessed with a restaurant this outstanding with a reasonable price point for the quality and sophistication of the food. The service was excellent. People of Parkersburg, consider yourself blessed. I am too far away to ever come back here again, but if I am in the area, you can bet I’ll be calling ahead for a reservation.

I’m in town visiting my folks, and my dad says he has really wans to try this place. It is so worth it. The place is hopping (we had to wait 1.5 hrs, so make sure to get a reservation). The seafood gumbo and corn bread were excellent (and a nice spicy/sweet combo). The crab fettuccine (extra spice) featured real crab (and they didnt skimp). My parents loved theirs, too. The waitstaff were incredibly friendly and gave great suggestions (eat the cornbread in the gumbo, etc.). If this were in my city, I would frequent it often; I certainly will when I visit next time. A+ yall, very well done! ❤️
