I don’t know what they put in their coleslaw (probably crack) but it’s crisp and fresh as heck
Tortilla chips come out piping hot with their gas homemade salsa. Don’t sleep on the carrot cake either!
Great prices too; it’s expensive to eat here these days but trust me, these guys will hook you up.
Would give em 6 stars if I could.
Man has his two kids working in there with him.. totally family establishment don’t be fooled though, this fam knows how to throw down! Super kind folks tbh
Go show these guys some love ❤️
Ps. Pic is of me going in for my 2nd plate (I know I’m chubs)
The restaurant itself is small and casual, more of a neighborhood takeout spot than a formal dining space. Most people order at the counter and either grab their food to go or sit at the small outdoor tables nearby. The setup is simple, but that seems intentional since the real focus is on the food.
One of the highlights here is the garlic ahi plate. The fish is cooked just enough to keep it tender while still preserving its natural flavor. The garlic seasoning adds a strong savory kick without overpowering the ahi itself.
Like many local plate lunch spots, the meal comes with rice and macaroni salad, which balances the richness of the seafood and rounds out the plate. Portions are generous and satisfying.
The restaurant tends to attract a mix of locals, surfers, and visitors who know where to find some of the better seafood plate lunches outside of the main tourist areas of Waikiki.
What stood out most to me was the freshness of the seafood. Places that specialize in just a few dishes often execute them well, and South Shore Grill seems to follow that approach.
Overall, South Shore Grill is a great place to stop if you are in the Monsarrat or Diamond Head area and want a straightforward seafood plate lunch that highlights fresh fish and bold flavors.
The food is fresh no doubt. I asked for garlic butter sauce for my Grilled Ono but what I got is a pile of garlic. No butter. That garlic is enough to drop your high blood pressure by 20 points. No to mention Dracula will never cross your way as he can smell garlic breath 100 meters out. Jokingly aside it’s okay. I happen to like the garlic. The only real downer for me is the looooong wait. Make sure you bring a book to read to pass time.
Friendly service, decent atmosphere.
Food was a bit dry. We ordered the chicken plate and fish tacos. Flavor was good on the chicken, but it was dry. Fish tacos could use more flavor.
Mac salad was yum.
Would go back to try other dishes. Could have just been an off day because other reviews say the fish tacos are spot on.
