The South District Market brings a new concept to the Iowa City community. There are now 3 small business open providing awesome food and goods in a shared food court / market setting. Current vendors: -Royceann’s Soul Food Restaurant – lunch & dinner – Soul Food (Wed-Sun, Closed Mon-Tues) -*NEW* Zoetic Coffee! Opening in December of 2025 – Full coffee shop, serving baked goods as well! Hours Dec. 2025: M-Sat: 7am-11am -MDC Iowa – business incubator retail space inside the South District Market with rotating vendors There is something for everyone, with free wi-fi, convenient indoor and outdoor seating. Come in and check it out!

Royceann’s is the best Souldfood in the Iowa City area. Good food & good portions. The fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, and cabbage are my favorites!!!!

I never give one star but for the first time I ordered the fried cat fish nuggets was greasy and the pork chop was dried. The side dishes cabbage was mushy and candied yams was soupy. Almost $40 spent but we could not eat the food. The people there was friendly. We won’t come back. It’s hard to find really good soul food in Iowa and we’re a huge fans of soul food.

First time trying Royceann soul food and my experience was ok. The customer service wasn’t bad. I order catfish nuggets and tried the Mac-n-cheese, cabbage, collard greens and yams. I have to be honest it took 20mins to receive my food after ordering it fish only takes 7min to fry and everything else was already on the hot plate bar so I was a little annoyed with how long it took to get my food. Also, the server didn’t wash her hands before fixing my food. The food was high in sodium and I couldn’t eat it. I asked for extra crispy fish but it was fried hard instead. To be honest the place is clean but the food wasn’t what I expected and I hated that. Was really excited to try. Don’t know if I would try again maybe I caught them on a bad day…

I have just eaten my dinner cooked up by Roycenne and I am stuffed and happy! Service was polite and the 4 stars are not a reflection of a negative experience–only that good food cooked fresh takes a while.
