First time at Soul Shack. It is in Cedar Hill. The food was great. Nice atmosphere and ambiance. Nice music playing. Friendly wait staff. Everything was fresh and delicious. I love patronizing black owned businesses. I would definitely recommend them if you are in the area.

We are in town for our Anniversary from Chicago and we lucked up on the very best first night food experience we have ever had…and how about they are from Chicago! We had the Soul ros here and I had oxtail, mac, yams, greens and Hubby had the Lamb chops with the parm with pasta! Grade A!!! The AMBIANCE is Amazing! The SERVICE was TOP TIER! The love they put in their Mocktails is unmatched! 5 out of 5 easily!

The ambiance is very nice. There were so many things I wanted to try on the menu. It was a bit pricier than I expected, but I felt the food was worth it. My friend ordered the blackened salmon with mash potatoes. It was okay, but I thought overseasoned. I had the short ribs with rice, so tender and flavorful. We also had Soul Rolls, they were also delicious. We shared fried pound cake with peaches. It was a large serving. I had a peach cobbler martini, excellent. My main complaint was wait time from the kitchen to table. The waitstaff was on point. There were too many extra fees like 18% gratuity and liquor tax. I don’t know if this was a city charge, but cost of alcoholic beverages was already high at $15+. I would like to know my waiter receives the tip. Overall, food was excellent.

Let me say the customer service and atmosphere was amazing!!! Taylor was awesome! We were a party of 6 and she took care of each one of us. She was patient and kind, offering suggestions since this was our first visit! There was also a young man who was great and assisted her (not sure of his name-he had a beautiful curly fro). The establishment included a handwritten birthday card and birthday shot for the birthday men! That small detail was so special! The food was pretty good! Cornbread (both variations) was great, fried chicken wings were delicious, peach sweet tea was yummm, and salmon was also good. A few things I’d change like creamier mac n cheese, greens with less salt, the peach cobbler was undercooked, and the stuffed chicken breast was dry ( the cream cheese and spinach stuffing was a drier consistency). Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and we definitely intend to visit again!!!

I celebrated my birthday here on Friday, September 19, 2025 after seeing them on instagram. This was my first visit at the Soul Shack. The food was delicious. I had lamb chops, mash potatoes, greens, mac & cheese, and sweet potato cornbread. My friend ordered wings, fries, greens and mac & cheese. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent . Tranell and Taylor did an amazing job. My goddaughter said they deserve 10 out of 10 rating and I agree. I will definitely be back. I also loved the R&B bingo.

This location is in a mall setting and a little tricky to locate. Parking is plentiful. This was my first time at Soul Shack and it did not disappoint! Our server was Six! The service was on point and the food order arrived promptly. The food presentation was beautiful and food seasoned to perfection. I ordered the lamb, stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes,Mac and cheese, black eyed peas and sweet potato cornbread…

Let’s start with the positive and that’s the atmosphere. The decor and music are nice and that’s it. The soul rolls were good as well. However, for my main course I had the Southern Wings which were dry and lacked any flavor. My server also failed to mention that they up charge you for smashed potatoes instead of the rice that it comes with. Although she offered me the choice.
When asked the server proceeded to insist in an argumentative tone and sarcastically stated she apologized if I didn’t hear it. Yet others at my table also did not hear it. So, this attitude from a server is certainly why they place an 18% gratuity on a party of “1 or more” to ensure you tip for poor customer service.
In addition, we had a large party and they will not allow guests to push tables together. The restaurant does not tell you this when you make the reservation so instead of a large table we were spread out across 3 tables total. They also without listing it on the menu have an additional up charge when you order desserts to go. Which again was discovered while examining the final bill. Not to mention they limit how many tickets a table can have down to two each.
The restaurant seemed to be full and that’s great for this location but I will never return nor would I necessarily recommend it to anyone for future dinner plans. There’s too many rules, mid tasting food , and undisclosed up charge pricing so I’d prefer other dining choices in the future for my hard earned money.

We hosted a party at Soul Shack in Cedar Hill tonight, and overall it was a mixed experience. The vibe and atmosphere are amazing — it’s definitely a great spot for gatherings, and we truly appreciated them allowing us to host our large party there. The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout the night. That being said, the wait time for food was extremely long. While I understand that larger parties can take more time, it felt excessive. They also have several table rules in place, which I can understand are meant to keep things organized and avoid confusion, but it did make the experience feel a bit structured. The food was okay, but in my opinion, it’s very pricey for the portion sizes and overall quality. Another thing that stood out to me was that receipts are not automatically provided. I personally prefer to receive a receipt without having to request one. One of my biggest pet peeves at restaurants is having to ask for drink refills. Water should never run out at the table, and unfortunately, we had to ask multiple times for refills. Overall, I’m grateful for the opportunity to host our event there and truly enjoyed the atmosphere, but I do think there’s room for improvement when it comes to wait times, pricing value, and attentiveness with refills.

First time here for a friends birthday, and Taylor was amazing as our server! The food was amazing. I ended up having the oxtail (does have fat) with mash potatoes, a side of mac and cheese, green beans (too spicy), and sweet potato corn bread. Will definitely come back! Ask for Taylor when you come in!
