I had high hopes for this place. But after just going through the menu with the cashier those hopes turned to doubt.

Let’s start with the menu. It was hard to read because of the chosen colors and font. It needed updating as well. A few of the items on it were either not sold anymore or sold out. This is all fine, as long as the food is good.

I ordered the Catfish filet meal @ 21.99… not a terrible price if the food is great. However, this catfish dinner just didn’t hit the mark. The breading on the two planks you get is ok, it had a good crunch to it. But it was not seasoned very well, none of the meal was as you can see from the pictures. Everything had some what I’m assuming was fresh parsley chopped on top but that was about it. No pepper, maybe some salt, but overall just really lacking any real flavor. Also, the cornbread… Very sweet.

Anyway, I am not completely turned away from this place because the service was good. They greeted me immediately when I walked in the door and all of the staff I spoke with were respectful. I am always willing to give a place like this another shot. I feel like this is someone’s dream coming true and I would like to be able to enjoy the food that they produce from that. So I will try them again and update this review in the future.

I wanted to try this place for so long, but never seemed to catch them when they were open. Today I was blessed enough to meet the owner who was very kind and welcoming. The restaurant has a cozy, clean, family feel – I appreciated that. I ordered the catfish dinner with mac and greens. The owner was also nice enough to let me try one of the desserts- Carmel Cake. The catfish was decent, as was the mac, greens, and cake. The cornbread was delicious! As a consumer I understand how difficult it must be to satisfy different taste buds when it comes to soul food, so while my meal of choice was not my absolute favorite comparatively to other soul food establishments, it was by no means a bad experience. I will return again and try some of the other items on the menu.

Disappointing First Visit – Bland Food & Flat Drink for Nearly $40

I recently tried this restaurant for the first time and unfortunately, I was left disappointed. I ordered the pork chop meal, which came with two pork chops and two sides—I chose greens and macaroni and cheese. I also added yams for an additional $5 and requested a Sprite to drink.

While the portion sizes were decent, the flavor was severely lacking. Everything I tasted was bland and under-seasoned, including the pork chops and sides. To make matters worse, the Sprite I received was nothing more than carbonated water with no syrup, which made the drink completely undrinkable.

For a nearly $40 meal, I expected much better quality and taste. Sadly, this experience didn’t live up to the price or the hype. I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Stopped in right before closing, the host and chef went above and beyond to serve my wife and I. We had fried catfish, collard greens, and candied yams. My meal was smothered chicken wings over rice with potatoes salad and mac and cheese. Both meals came with cornbread. The meal was one the best we ever had. Cannot express our joy, Took pics of the meal.

They were out of greens and smothered pork chops, they had fried pork chops and cabbage. The cabbage was very mushy the salmon patties were very salty. Our drinks were not refilled. We drove all the way from fishers thinking we were going to get a good soul food meal. We will not return. We waisted $55.00. The fried pork chops were good , I left the rest of my food on the table.

Owner and cooks were so incredibly polite & the best food I’ve had in a minute! I can usually eat 6 wings easily but their wings are HUGE (and delicious). The Shack Greens and the Shack Mac are to die for! If you’re looking for great soul food, this is the place!

OH AND THAT CORNBREAD!!!! GOOD LORD

This place was a very big disappointment! We waited 10 minutes before we had to call out for anyone to greet us. There was no one there so it was an echo. They thought we were yelling then as we began to put our order in found out they have a Pepsi machine with no Pepsi. As we laughed and continued to wait to pay for our food. The owner bypassed my mother and I to take someone else’s order. After she rudely did that she rudely told us to leave. What a poor business owner. She rudely yelled at us saying that we should treat her business as if it was Cheesecake Factory. I wouldn’t refer anyone to ever step foot in a place of business like that. That lady is mean and was rude to me and my mom.

Excellent food. Good portions. I actually had leftovers.. I had the catfish fillet dinner. The fish was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Not too salty. Spaghetti was good, not overcooked, sauce was a tiny bit sweet but still delicious. Service was friendly. Great experience! I loved the jazz playing. Very relaxing atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back.!

When I say they put the foot in that food. We had the catfish dinner with Mac and cheese and greens. The Mac and cheese was on point and creamy. The greens was good as well. But that catfish was fried to perfection. Very well seasoned and it didn’t have that real fishy taste either. The cook did his thang. And the lady who took our order was super sweet and down to earth. Now pricing is a little high but it’s worth it. Definitely can’t wait to go back.
