If you’re looking for real, authentic soul food, this place is a must-visit. This restaurant has been serving the community for over 30 years, and you can truly feel the history, love, and pride the moment you walk in. The environment has an older, classic feel that adds to its charm, nothing fancy, just genuine and welcoming.
We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is an absolutely wonderful man. He took great care of us and his energy was pure, warm, and genuine, exactly what you hope for in a family-owned establishment.
Now let’s talk about the food, chef’s kiss. We ordered the fried catfish, whiting fish, and fried chicken, and every bite was delicious and cooked to perfection. The sides were plentiful and on point: candied yams, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, collard greens, black-eyed peas and rice, and potato salad, all served with thick, moist cornbread. Everything tasted like it was made with love. While I personally like my mac and cheese with a bit more crunch on top, it was still delicious and didn’t disappoint.
This is the kind of place you have to try when you’re in town, true soul food, great portions, and even better people. I’ll definitely be back.

It was just ok. I went here based off the reviews. Chicken was pretty dry. Fried fish was bland. Only thing I liked was the Salisbury steak meal. The black eyed peas were great. Cabbage overcooked. Cornbread dry. The area it’s in is super sketchy. I paid $53 for 2 plates and will not return. The guy taking my order was very nice though

We came up from south hills area to get some collard greens. Did not disappoint, and ribs and chicken were great. People working were very kind. Its a simple place to grab some food, mostly for take out but has a couple ledges for eating there.

I am orginayfrom Baltimore MD and moved to Pittsburgh recently. I have been looking for some good soul food! It was delicious. I ordered the Workshop dinner with greens and yams, my father had ribs and my husband had the fish and chicken combo it was so delicious as and the owner was so sweet and nice. He told us about his culinary journey.

Food was really good! They cook everything fresh! The food was seasoned to perfection! Portions were pretty generous. We came here just in time before we had to leave for our flight!

I found Soul Food Connections via a Google search planning a party with my sister from out of state. Mr. Hosea is an old school cook and his food is delicious!!! The partygoers raved about everything, went back for seconds, and took plates to go. My 96 year old grandmother said “Whoever made this food knew what they were doing” before sending me to get her a piece of fried chicken that she didn’t get the first go round. We shared his name/business with all who asked.

The ONLY downside is this business is old school; however it works for him. Place the order over the phone or in person and pay cash. My sister was in town to pay half the balance to secure our request. We were told we’d receive an invoice and it never came, nonetheless he confirmed with us via phone the week of the party and all was well. He has his method and it works.

When in town, I definitely plan to visit during the week for lunch.

Food was amazing! I also got their potato salad and everything was delicious, fresh and hot! I highly recommend. I am originally from Philly, and I struggled finding an authentic soul food spot, and this place was amazing.

I’m so glad I came across this place on my visit to Pittsburgh. This is real southern soul food. The folks working there were so friendly. I came in close to closing time, but they kindly made some fresh chicken for me, and even threw in an extra wing and a piece of cake for making me wait a few minutes longer. The Mac and cheese was creamy, the collard greens perfectly flavored, and some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in a long time. If you like southern cooking, go visit this institution!
