So my husband and I found this place on Google we were searching soul food and we found SOUL FOOD CHESS HOUSE ‼️ We absolutely loved it ‼️❤️❤️❤️ the food here is authentic the best Soul food around . The catfish was cooked and seasoned to perfection the macaroni and cheese was delicious also the yams cabbage was great as well. The atmosphere was great loved the vibe also loved the choice of music I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! We love ❤️ supporting BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES. We will most definitely be returning.

This place is really great! Last time I ordered from here I got the Shrimp Dinner with Candy Yams and Mac & Cheese. This time I got the Sweet & Spicy Wings with Yams and Cornbread. Everything is so delicious! Very generous portions, enough to for two servings. The owners are very friendly and the restaurant has a nice welcoming feel. Definitely give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

Soul Food Chess House is a solid restaurant to get good soul food. My meal was 22$ and it included, 4 big crispy fried wings (seasoned very well, chicken delicious), and two sides. For my sides I chose their Mac and cheese and cornbread. Though I wished the mac & cheese was a little bit more creamy I’m sure if I had it at the restaurant it would have been creamy (ordered takeout). Nonetheless it was good Mac and cheese. The cornbread was a good addition. It gave the right amount of sweet mixed with the “salty”from the chicken and pasta. They serve fairly big portions which makes 22$ a reasonable price to pay for a meal. They have a wide array of options. I’m not aware if there is a website that linked their menu, but you can see their options through DoorDash. You can sit inside the restaurant but may suggest against it due to its compact size and the strong smell of fried food (the kitchen is right across from the tables). The staff was very friendly and seem like good people ! All in all I’d give the food a solid 8.5/10 (the food looks better in person then it does on the DoorDash pictures)

Everything was delicious!!!! Whitefish tasted so flavorful, it was tender and flakey. The crust was crispy, not soggy and yummy to the last bite! Mac&Cheese made me cry!! It was just like mom’s! Potato salad was soooo good too!

We happened to see this place because we were across the street getting our vehicle serviced. We live almost an hour away, but we will take the drive! The food was so good. We loved everything we got. It was flavored perfectly. The service was great, and prices were reasonable based on portion size. If you’re in the area, go try it. If you’re not in the area, do yourself a favor and DRIVE THERE!

When visiting the Poconos, and if you are craving soul food… this is your place. The service and atmosphere were amazing. They make you feel so welcomed. They give you plenty of food, and the food is very delicious. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Soul Food Chess House in Stroudsburg has been in business for quite some time and I honestly just keep forgetting to go. Not today. Today I remembered! Both the man and woman working inside were very friendly and helpful. The spot had maybe 8 tables that seat 4 people inside but I chose to take it to go. Quite a few jazz-style paintings too, reminded me of New Orleans a bit.
Fried whiting was fresh and flavorful, I would have eaten a whole tray of this stuff. The wings were crunchy and tasty without any taste of fryer oil. The Mac and cheese was just a solid dependable southern baked mac, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The greens were solid as well. They had a vinegar flavor to them but not so much that it was unwelcoming. The cornbread had good flavor but it was pretty dry honestly.
$22 platter and I’m perfectly okay paying it for the portions. Soul Food Chess House absolutely – Didn’t Suck!

Nothin like some Soul food to ease any bad mood and make your stomach and heart happy! Husband & I came in and each got some fried shrimp and cornbread (a MUST) and he also got a side of some yellow rice. We both left so happy We will be back!!!!

The location is on a busy street (broad) with no parking but there is a lot on the corner that you can park in. The space is small and you order at the door and they kindly give you recommendations and are very polite. I do recommend ordering the food in advance then picking it up.
The quality is amazing. One of the best Mac and cheese dish in the Newark area. The oxtails are clean and flavorful. The chicken wings are juicy in the inside and crispy in the outside. The portions are huge where 2 maybe 3 people can eat. The price is $4-$6 dollars higher than the competition but the quality and serving is worth it.

Food was absolutely DE LICI OUS!!!! 10 Out of 10 for sure. Portion sizes were well worth the money. I do recommend you take out. You can dine in. However, the space is a bit cramped. There is no wait staff. But other than that. Like I said, 10 out of 10. Make sure you get an UPTOWN drink and cornbread. You will not regret it.
