Sophia’s opened its doors in 1995 as Davis’s very first Thai restaurant—and nearly three decades later, we’re still cooking for the town we grew up with. Our food is rooted in country-style Thai cooking: bold, balanced, and built on the sweet-spicy backbone of Southeast Asian cuisine. Over the years, we’ve layered in a distinctly California sensibility, letting peak-season produce and fresh, vibrant ingredients shape the menu without losing sight of where the food comes from. Locals have been kind to us. Sophia’s was named Yolo County’s Best Thai Food for 24 consecutive years (and counting) by The Davis Enterprise, with additional nods from regional and statewide publications. More importantly, generations of students, professor…

Although I only had the sampler, the vibes were right, and the service was on point. I had a cocktail, and everything was perfect. I’d come back and try some other items. Other people’s food smelled fantastic.

A bit pricey and lacking Thai flavors. I ordered one of the few items on the menu with spicy in the name (and the chili pepper icon) but it was not spicy at all. They have some spices you can add. Vegetables were nice and fresh but it tasted like a generic stir fry.

The beef is quite chewy, otherwise the protein in all dishes are good. Curry stir fry is generally better than curry dishes, which has thinner flavor.
Spring rolls are very tasty, crispy and light.

Might have found my new go-to place in Davis. You can tell how authentic a Thai restaurant is from how good their Pad Kra Pao dish is made. And Sophia’s did it perfectly from the ingredients to the taste. They even topped it off with a Thai style fried egg. Sorry for the picture being a little dark as we had to sit in the outdoor rented seating cause inside was full even on a weekday.
The Sampler appetizer was delicious as well and comes with 3 different sauces for each dish.
As a person who loves Thai food, I’ll surely return the next time I’m back in Davis.

The food is soooooo good! The workers are really nice and service is pretty quick. We go to Sophia’s Thai Kitchen almost every Friday night. You must go!

This is mellow safe Thai food. If you find strong flavors too much to handle, than this is your spot to try thai adjacent food.
I like traditional Thai food so this place just wasn’t suited for me.
Sadly, the first and last time I visited this place I I asked for Thai Chile or prik nam pla to add some actual flavor to the meal and they didn’t even have any. Place is packed, just not a spot for flavorful Thai food.
Service is good.

Lovely outdoor area, food was amazing, our waitress made the trip with a recommendation that was our favorite part of the meal!

After having way too many meals in LA’s Thai town, we’ve gotten a bit particular about the food and were leary based on the mixed reviews. We weren’t disappointed when we ordered some favorites: green papaya salad (surprisingly only slightly spicy), pad woon sen (good noodles with a refreshing citrusy sauce), gratium (garlic and pepper pork). Plus, we enjoyed new dishes like the nam Khao (sour pork with a good kick of heat) and spicy eggplant. For those who wanted more heat, the condiment tray with the chilies in fish sauce did the trick . The funky decor is fun too.

I want to thank Naya for taking care of me and my friend when I was visiting Davis for a conference on Oct 21, 2025. Naya did an excellent job of helping me understand the menu and discussing her favorite dishes and answering all my question. I found the food very delicious and I would visit again if I ever came back. Thank you Naya S.!

Ample, delicious lunch items plus a spice pack with sambal, sriracha, chili crunch, and pickled chilis! I had Pad See Ew with chicken.
