Discovered Soon’s from an IG post about a few of their favorite spots in Oahu. Decided to check it out for dinner during our last trip out.

Was a quick 15 minute drive from the Hilton village. Arrived to find a no frills restaurant. First discovered meat jun while out in Lanai and loved it. Opted for both the meat jun mix and kalbi plate. Food was ready within 5 mins and decided to eat back at our hotel as we had a full kitchen and dining table. The food smelled amazing and somehow we made it back in less than 10 mins.

The kalbi and bbq chicken were both awesome. Was really disappointed with the meat jun as it had a weird chewy texture. Upon closer inspection, not sure if it was even beef! Loved how they include both kimchi and cooked bean sprouts with each plate. We thought the portions were pretty generous and had more than enough for lunch the next day!

Would definitely head back for both their kalbi and bbq chicken during our next visit out to HNL. Bring cash as that’s the only form of payment accepted!!

Nice hole-in-the-wall Korean takeout place, conveniently on the corner of a strip mall.

Ordered a Kalbi and Meat Juhn. Both are delicious choices.

Parking is easy, ordering simple, and food comes out fast. This is a lunch place so there’s a crowd/line during the busy times.

This is a cash-only place.

CASH only. Quick efficient service with hot delicious food! They do have a small seating area outside but the flies find you fast so plan on eating in your car. The Kalbi was amazing, my bf ate his in seconds flat.

I got to try their meat jhun and it was good and they do give a lot. I got to eat half for lunch and saved the rest for my dinner. Also the workers are very friendly and helpful.

Went for dinner. They are cash only, but there is an ATM just around the corner at the bank next door. I got the #1 which came with the short ribbon, grilled chicken, and meat jun. The chicken was the star of the show with the ribs close behind. It was a ton of food and well worth the price. We also got the Pulgogi plate which had a mountain of meat and rice. Great place with a short wait.

Great local place for food right after leaving the airport. The food was fast and tasty. It’s hidden at the corner edge of the parking lot. I’ve dropped a star as it’s a bit inconvenient that the place is cash-only (there’s an ATM around the corner).

My wife used to live in Oahu and she and the kids loved this place. It’s all I heard about for 10 plus years. Finally got to sample it and all I can say is the hype was totally accurate. Amazing. Delicious. Fresh. A must stop in the Honolulu area !! Cash only.

Food is ALWAYS SO SO DELICIOUS, have been a Soons customer for YEARS.
The ONLY problem is the pricing has gotten way too expensive, I’m aware costs have risen for them as well, meat is ridiculous everywhere, but the “price to QUANTITY” of food given is just too high and we’ve had to cut back as frequently as we used to visit simply bc of the price and we’re left still hungry
It’s amazing food though and you gotta try it if ever visiting…if ur local & haven’t yet, are you even local??! Follow the delicious bbq smell through Salt Lake to get there, lol

Soon’s has been my go-to spot for years, being raised in the surrounding area. It’s the ultimate destination for Meat Jun enthusiasts like myself. I often opt for their bento, as it conveniently combines Meat Jun, fried chicken, and vegetables in one satisfying meal. The reasonable pricing for the bento is another highlight, making it a great value. Occasionally, it can get crowded, so I’ve found that ordering ahead is a smart move to save time and bypass standing in line. Overall, Soons remains a cherished and reliable choice, consistently delivering delicious flavors and convenience.

5/5!

Had a local friend recommend this place to me as one of the must visit food spots to hit in Hawaii. I can say, I was not disappointed and really loved the food here. It’s a very lowkey spot, kind of a, “If you know, you know” spot and when you try the food, you’ll understand why there’s always a line here.

The Food: I went with the Meat Jhun (Beef Cutlet) plate. It’s kind of hard to describe, but its basically a thin beef cutlet that is housed in an almost egg/flour mix batter. Believe me, its incredible. They provide a small little soy dipping sauce to pair with it, and it’s amazing. Pair it even more with some rice, that’s a meal right there.

The Service: The service was okay. It was a little slow, but understandable. There was a long line, and it’s small little restaurant that you walk up to and order. Also, this is a CASH ONLY place, so come prepared with some bills.

The Atmosphere: The restaurant is setup for you to just walk up and take your order at the window. They have big menus for you to browse while you’re waiting. And there are some tables on the side, but not much.

Overall, a 5/5! Hands down a spot that you must visit while in Hawaii. Remember, the restaurant is CASH ONLY, so have a couple of bills on hand.
