Review: We ordered the nachos & marinated tri tip sandwich. Both were great!! Actually, we were surprised by how MUCH meat they put into the nachos…was quite a lot. Very glad about that. Food was good & I was a fan of the Carolina Mustard. Only complaint is turnaround time of our server but she was also training a new employee. Food TAT was adequate though. I’d come back & also recommend

While cruising through Gardnerville, we spotted Sonneys BBQ Shake and decided to stop. The wife was surprised to see beef ribs on the menu and ordered a combo plate with beef rib and brisket. She really enjoyed the ribs. A good bark with just a hint of spicy heat. The brisket looked great.
I had a beef burger with a side salad. The burger wasn’t the best ever but it was very good. The patty had a nice crust and I could taste beef with the BBQ sauce I added.
Service was good.
Interior is rustic with a hunting theme going. I could see a full service bar from our table. The bar had some sort of sports on the overhead TV.
An overall good experience. I would rate Sonneys in the top three or four BBQ places in the Reno/Carson/Minden area.

Excellent bar-b-que! The ribs in particular were very good and so was my Brisket sandwich. For sides, garlic mashed potatoes and sweet potatoe fries were great. The inside decor was very well done, very rustic and Western. We will definitely be back!

We came in with out looking at anything on online, and we were pleasantly surprised, especially since we live in Texas at how delicious the brisket and baby baby ribs at Sonney’s bbq. The potato salad was perfect as well. Our server was friendly and very attentive to our drinks and such. Overall, I would would highly recommend this gem.

Had to cone to Gardnerville for work, saw this place as I was passing through town, after I finished checking on the project, I looked it up, was convinced to try it out. Soooo glad I did! Had beef ribs and brisket with all the sides… couldn’t eat it all, but that just means I’ll get to enjoy it twice today.. highly recommended!

When is a Brisket Salad not a Brisket Salad? When the Brisket is missing. We placed a to-go order on 02/22. A photo is attached. We live around 50 miles away from Minden. Imagine my disappointment when I opened the Brisket Salad to not find any Brisket was inside. I thought maybe the Brisket was on the bottom. No.
We texted a message to Sonney’s on 02/22 with no answer. We called Sonney’s on 02/23 & were supposed to receive a call back from the Manager. The Manager never called back. We also purchased a Big Boy & they were out of Hamburger Buns. What kind of BBQ restaurant does not have any Hamburger Buns? They also did not have any Corn Chowder Soup which is supposed to be available everyday.
We have eaten here a few other times with no problems. The food has always been good. I am thinking there is a new Manager in place who does not know what they are doing.
The moral of this story is to always check your to-go order, especially if you do not live in the Minden area. The other moral is to maybe not eat here anymore.

I would have to say that they’re too busy up front to serve those of us that they put in the back room.. “Everything okay?” As she flew bye was the most heard line on top of I’m sorry every time she passed. Waited for someone to bring water finally started coughing due to such dry throat, asked if the waitress or whoever the blonde gal was for a glass of water she ran into the kitchen area and never returned with the water, our waitress did finally arrive so did the water . 🙂 everyones talking at once, rushing around. The husband asked for beer list guess they don’t have one she rattled off 4 beers from her order pad.
The meal arrived nicley prepared , Yay for ribs nicely done chef nice bark , mashed potatoes (more garlic) smiles, cornbread and salad we split this meal as we are small eaters . We do love trying food in the Eastern Sierra. Maybe we hit ya at a bad thyme! Service food

Love that Minden/Gardnerville got a good quality BBQ Shack. Staff is awesome, the bar is great and the taste of the BBQ is on point. Bit pricey for the region, but we will be back for the flavors and live atmosphere.

Ribs were great. Skip on the chicken.
Sides we had French fries were great, loaded baked potato good, corn bread was good skip the grits and coleslaw. Potato salad was good. Nice to see youth working. We had a great server.
