A Nogales classic that has sadly seen better days. We visited for breakfast, and although the restaurant had a few busy tables, it took an unreasonably long time to be acknowledged, receive menus, and place our orders. The wait for our food was just as lengthy and unnecessarily long.
We ordered enchiladas (one with scrambled eggs) and a bowl of menudo. While the presentation was fine, the food itself was average at best—nothing special. The flavors weren’t really present in either of the dishes. Adding to the disappointment, we requested a glass of water but were instead given a bottle—and got charged for it. Considering the quality, the prices felt steep and unjustified.
The ambiance was another letdown. The restaurant was dimly lit, with no atmosphere, and felt more like dining in a dusty, neglected space. Ultimately, this local spot has clearly declined over time. With overpriced, mediocre food and a lackluster dining experience, it’s hard to justify a visit.

A Culinary Gravity Experiment
If you enjoy food that tastes like it was prepared by someone who has a personal vendetta against seasoning, La Cabaña is your spot.
Let’s start with the salsa, which had all the personality and kick of a glass of lukewarm tap water. I’m convinced the kitchen staff just blended some red construction paper and hoped for the best. The steak followed suit—devoid of salt, pepper, or joy. It was accompanied by onions chopped into chunks so uneven and massive I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to eat them or use them as doorstops.
The “fresh” jalapeños? They had the soggy, metallic sadness of a can of sardines that’s been sitting in a hot garage since 1998. Zero crunch, zero spice, just pure despair.
But the real star of the show was the table. It was set at such a severe slant that I didn’t even need a spoon; gravity just pulled the bland mush directly into my mouth. It’s less of a dining experience and more of a physics-based delivery system. If you want a meal that challenges your sense of balance and your will to live, this is the place.

The food at this restaurant was very delicious and authentic. Our server was very attentive, very helpful and went over and beyond during our meal. Prices are reasonable and there are many good food options on the menu. The flour tortillas were very good and we ordered iced Jamaica for our drinks and it had a great taste as well. Overall I would definitely come back here and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic and delicious Mexican food.

Nogales as a small town offers well over a hundred restaurants to choose from, and most of them are on a narrow strip of land along Highway 19, also known as Grand Avenue. You best do your homework on deciding where to stop for some munchies and refreshments… the majority of this town’s selections are hard to say no to. We decided on La Cabaña Breakfast and Grill. Since 1987 Gustavo and Raquel Valencia have put their heart and soul into this Northern Mexican Cuisine hang out! From their homey resto layout, Mexican décor and accoutréments, and their fab food it’s no wonder its always busy! With so many other spots to get your Mex fix in Nogales, this is one you’ll want to stop in again and again. Needless to say, everything we had from their menu was terrific. Buen provecho.

This place is absolutely amazing. By far the best Mexican food I have ever had. The service was excellent. Very fast and pleasant. I really enjoyed the old school layout. Definitely a must stop if you are in town . They menu is easy to understand and simple with alot of choices. They also serve ice cold beer. I can’t wait to come back here next year.

Carne plate #4 was excellent. Service was also great. Chips were crisp and salty. Salsa was spicy.

Food was decent (not the salad next to my Machaca Burrito) service was average slow, and the atmosphere made myself and family feel like targets. Not sure if we went in the wrong timing but some people just made our visit feel somewhat uncomfortable. Overall I think it was not too bad, but I think they can do a little better.

This place is one of my favorites for good, clean food and friendly service. The chips are straight out of a bag but they’re fresh and not greasy. The salsa is raw veges processed in a blender. Beef tamales are delicious. Margarita’s kick butt. It’s a dive and that’s part of the charm.

I went back to this restaurant after so many years (about 15 years) due to stale meat they had given me in a burrito. I decided to try it again. Taste of food is ok. I asked for the enchilada sale fir the day and compared the enchiladas from when a friend had ordered the same plate. Each of my enchiladas was about a quarter or more less than the regular enchiladas plate. No dessert or drink are included in sale of rhe day. For that amount of food, prices are high. When the waitress brought the drinks, I asked her a question, she responded but started to qalk away. I asked another question, she stops, responds and kept walking. Never did she come directly to the table to respond to my questions. She was walking to a table of two men that had called her. The waitress never offered more drinks. She was quick on asking for a TIP. The audacity these people have. They’re always asking for tips at the time of payment. It was hot in there. Not going back.

Just on a Saturday drive with family visiting and came across this cute little place, not a very busy spot but perfect for us. Beverages are available and food is delicious! I would definitely come back. Home style atmosphere and friendly staff. Great to bring children and the elderly.
