Sonmari began with Temaki Society, a handroll restaurant without a traditional kitchen inside Grayson bar in Downtown LA. Blending subtle Korean influences into handrolls, sushi and many other dishes, Sonmari is now preparing a home in Silver Lake to share more food and culture.

Now the food, they were absolutely divine. Every piece of sashimi tasted incredibly fresh, with clean flavors and that perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. You can really tell they prioritize quality and freshness. The hand roll / sonmari selection is impressively wide, offering everything from classic toro and salmon to more creative combinations
Portion sizes are surprisingly substantial too. We ordered 2–3 small plates and shared one chirashi bowl, plus about 1–2 hand rolls per person, and it was more than enough. In fact, we left completely satisfied (and maybe a little too full). The chirashi bowl especially was beautifully presented and loaded with fresh fish.
Overall, this place delivers both quality and value. If you love fresh sashimi and perfectly crafted hand rolls, this spot is definitely worth checking out.
A chill, quality spot I’d happily come back to.
I feel a bit basic saying this, but the smoked salmon hand roll was my favorite, closely followed by the naengmyeon-inspired sashimi. The flavors are clean, bright, and well balanced! Another surprise fave was the steak, perfectly seared and salted.
All in all, definitely worth a visit. Sonmari both solved and created a sushi craving for me!
It’s not just another place with the same old sushi menu. The food and the vibe really stuck with me. It feels so good to finally have a truly great spot in the neighborhood.
The staff were super friendly and knew the menu inside out, which made the whole experience even better.
If you love hand rolls done right, you’ll want to come here.
Anything with uni on the menu is a must-order, the quality is truly on another level.
The hambagu (such a cute name!) immediately reminded me of an elevated In–and-Out style burger, which is a huge compliment in my book since I love them. It had that familiar comfort factor with more depth and intention in the flavors. The crispy rice was delicious, crisp on the outside with great texture and balance, and easy to keep reaching for.
The standout for me was the clam chowder. I did not expect it to steal the show, yet it ended up being my favorite dish of the night. It felt rich, warm, and deeply satisfying without feeling heavy, which is hard to pull off.
I also tried the gamjajum. It was well executed, though it leaned more onion forward than my personal palate prefers, making it my least favorite dish based solely on preference rather than quality.
Service was excellent throughout the meal. Janet and John were attentive, warm, and made the experience feel relaxed and welcoming. That level of service always elevates a dining experience.
Sonmari feels creative, confident, and intentional, and I would happily return to explore more of the menu. Great find in Silver Lake!
The chef kindly treated us to **soba** and a savory **pancake (jeon)**, and they were so good that I definitely want to order them again next time. For dessert, we had the **Mont Blanc** and **Matcha Cheesecake**, and both were fantastic.
I honestly feel like I could come here once a week. The food is great, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are very reasonable.
Apparently they just opened, changing menu often but overall it’s a great value and delicious. Atmosphere is great and service was great too
I ordered potato, soba, hikari don, duck uni toast, mulhwe, and couple hand rolls.
I think duck is something I would drive from west side to silverlake. Very delicious flavor from persimmon and strawberry and duck. Skin was crispy, meat was tender, and nicely seasoned.
All handrolls were spectacular especially hamburger one. Very unique and very delicious, do not skip this one. One of the best bite in LA for me this year.
Overall they just opened do
Beer and sake with some appetizer with killer handroll, you will have a great night out. For cheap price
