I was so happy to find a gluten free place! The sweet crepes were delicious, especially with the whipped cream! Every ingredient was super fresh and you could tell he really cared about his craft—he whisked the matcha for the latte right there, and it was so yummy. It took some time, but was totally worth the wait!

As an Orange County local who loves supporting small, LA-based chefs wherever I travel, finding this Japanese vegan, gluten-free gem in Kihei felt extra special. You can tell right away that there’s so much intention behind everything here — the team is incredibly polite, the space feels clean and welcoming, and the food is thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients that leave you feeling light and nourished instead of weighed down.

The portions come out small, but don’t be fooled — they’re surprisingly filling. Everything tastes fresh and handmade, especially the sauces, which you can tell aren’t shortcuts or things you could easily recreate at home. That level of care makes the experience feel truly authentic and unique.

Their matcha latte is one of the cleanest I’ve had — smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. It perfectly matches the overall vibe: simple, health-conscious, and intentionally crafted.

It’s rare to find an authentic Japanese vegan spot that is also fully gluten-free, especially one that clearly handmakes so much from scratch. In many of my favorite travel destinations — SF, Oahu, San Diego — there’s always that one standout clean, gluten-free Japanese place. This is Maui’s version of that hidden gem.

You can tell the owners are part of the modern, health-forward movement — the kind of small business that sells out at farmers markets because people trust the quality. After the Lahaina fires in 2023, supporting small local businesses feels more important than ever. Places like this deserve to thrive.

If you’re in Kihei, this spot is too good not to share. A true hidden gem that feels like a nod in the right direction for where food culture is heading — cleaner, kinder, and more intentional.

One of our favorite new restaurants on Maui. Super unique super tasty super fresh super local. You’ll feel great after eating here. The best crêpe I’ve ever had in my life.
Sidenote, I think everything is also gluten-free.
Don’t sleep on this spot.

This is one of the places where they make their food with love care and dedication, eating this food makes your soul and heart warm and nourished and also the owners are so sweet and kind and transmit such kind and relaxing vibes, perfect match with this beautiful and love-made artwork of food I tried their food before on the farmers market and it really blew my mind there but this is another level because there are more options!! this place is a must go if you are conscious on what you eat and appreciate the people that take care of the food you eat 🙂

Something Great Hawaii is an absolute Maui treasure. This husband-and-wife team (both vegan and genuinely the kindest people you’ll ever meet) create incredible Japanese food that’s fresh, flavorful, and full of heart. Every bite feels handmade with love—from the Cone Salad to the Mochi Mana Curry, everything is beautifully balanced and deeply satisfying.

Their restaurant is conveniently located right across from Three’s Bar & Grill in Kihei, and you can also find them at the Wednesday and Friday farmers markets! Whether you’re vegan or not, this is the kind of food that just makes you feel good!

Having been long-term customers of Rio and Yuko’s food stall at the Upcountry Farmer’s Market, we were thrilled to see their shop open recently in Kihei.

Their unique and imaginative rolls, crepes, curries, cones and drinks are delicious! Oishi!

In addition, the shop sells very cute beach-themed merch. Stop by and check it out. The owners are the kindest people you’ll meet on Maui.
