Michelin recommended and rightfully so. It’s is so good! The papaya salad is highly recommended by staff but I’d warn that it’s extremely fish sauce-y. It wasn’t to my particular taste but everything else they recommend is fantastic. I literally take anyone from out of town here because it’s some of the best authentic Thai food in the city.

My top recommendations: Tom Zab (Pork Ribs) soup and the Pad See Eew (Beef)

Som tum kinda never disappoints! It has been my best Thai spot for about a year ! Tried the mango dessert this time, not my favorite but I believe it’s more my taste! Panang curry is just a dream (sorry forgot to take pics). Also got a delicious lichee juice! Brought 2 friends and they all had a great experience. I made a reservation and I actually recommend.

This spot was so good!! I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. I liked the pork jowls, it was very soft. I loved the glass noodles it just felt really hearty. The panang curry was super tasty and full of flavour! The dessert in the end was okay, as a pandan lover actually kind of preferred their coconut ice cream instead of the pandan dessert, granted it was not bad.

This was an outstanding dining experience and a place I would confidently recommend to anyone seeking truly authentic Thai cuisine. The flavors here are bold, precise, and deeply rooted in traditional techniques rather than being adjusted for a Western palate. As a professional chef who has worked extensively with Asian cuisines, I’m very particular about balance, freshness, and execution — and this place delivers on all fronts.

The Tom Zab (Pork Ribs) soup was beautifully layered: tangy, savory, and aromatic, with a clean broth and real depth from herbs and spices. It’s the kind of soup that immediately tells you the kitchen knows what it’s doing. The shredded green papaya–style salad with carrot and vegetables was crisp, vibrant, and perfectly seasoned — refreshing, spicy, and addictive, with excellent texture.

Every dish felt honest and intentional. No shortcuts, no diluted flavors — just excellent Thai food done properly. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience real Thai flavors in Toronto.

My friends and I had an amazing experience at Som Tum Jinda in Toronto. We tried a variety of dishes, from their classic favourites to some of the newer menu items, and everything was absolutely delicious. The noodle dishes really stood out, along with the mango sticky rice and the refreshing Coconut Ocean with pineapple so good!

On top of the great food, the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which made the whole experience even better. It’s Michelin Rated for a reason✨❤️ Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for bold flavours and a great dining experience. We’ll definitely be back!

We went for dinner on New Year’s Eve. It’s a very cozy place which offered authentic Thai food. For me the stand-out item was the papaya salad; I have never had anything so spicy in Toronto, and I loved it! Their drinks are also very good and I would recommend them if you are having a spicy dish. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality, thanks to the Michelin app for leading me to this experience. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious and nourishing. There were plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, and the interior was well-decorated with a good balance of colors and lighting. We were made to sit in Crying Tiger Restaurant, as both places have the same owner. The food had a good flavor profile and seemed like an enjoyable place for one time. Great place overall 🙂 they gave free jelly dessert as part of valentine’s day

truly exceptional Thai celebration dinner: authentic, vibrant, effortless.

As someone who has travelled to Thailand nine times and eaten everywhere from Bangkok street stalls to Isan kitchens, I can confidently say that Som Tum Jinda on Gerrard Street delivers some of the most authentic Thai flavours I’ve experienced outside Thailand itself.

We celebrated a friend’s birthday here with a party of nine, and from start to finish the experience was seamless. The service deserves special mention: impressively fast yet never rushed, genuinely warm, friendly and efficient- exactly the sort of hospitality you’d hope for in Thailand, and so rarely find replicated this well abroad.

We began with papaya salad with dried shrimp and papaya salad with crispy crab- bright, fiery, properly balanced and unapologetically authentic. The grilled chicken and steamed rice that followed were excellent: juicy, well-seasoned and deeply satisfying, prompting us to order two more portions without hesitation.

From there, the kitchen didn’t miss a beat. The duck salad was fresh and aromatic, the glass noodles perfectly textured, and the basil chicken (two orders) fragrant and punchy in all the right ways. Shrimp chips, beef noodles and garlic chicken rounded out the savoury dishes, each arriving promptly and full of flavour.

Dessert was a joy. Thai bubble tea, pudding and a beautifully executed mango sticky rice- rich coconut cream, tender rice and ripe mango- provided the ideal ending to an outstanding meal.

Every dish was excellent. Every interaction felt thoughtful. A complete 10 out of 10 experience. Som Tum Jinda is the real deal: a place I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who cares about genuine Thai cooking, whether for a celebration or simply a superb dinner out.

Recommended dishes (from our table):

Papaya salad with dried shrimp
Papaya salad with crispy crab
Grilled chicken (order generously)
Duck salad
Glass noodles
Chicken with basil leaf
Beef noodles
Garlic chicken
Mango sticky rice

A restaurant that clearly understands its roots and executes them with confidence. We’ll be back- without question.

For unique and authentic taste, it is clear why they’re on the Michelin recommendations list. The food has very distinct flavours that are a wonderful try for authentic Thai cuisine.

The staff were incredibly friendly great. The atmosphere is social and loud enough that people can’t hear you; and you can hear the sound of cooking in the background which makes for a great vibe.

The dessert was not as great, but was worth a try.

Son Tum Jinda is a great downtown spot with a short menu that makes ordering easy, especially if you’re not very familiar with Thai food.

The food is good (not overly impressive for the price), but the value, vibe, and central location make it worth it.

I like how they offer set-style options with mains and desserts, so you don’t spend too much time choosing.

The space is small and gets crowded, with a 1.5-hour seating limit, but overall a solid experience.
