The California roll was fresh and balanced, good rice, smooth avocado, and clean flavors. They did it right without overdoing anything.
The shrimp fried rice was tasty on its own, but the sauce they gave me to pour over it made it even better. It had that rich, savory kick you usually get from soy-based sauces, the kind of sauce that’s common in Japanese dishes and goes great with rice. In Japanese food, soy sauce (also called shoyu) and sauces built off it are often used to add salty, umami depth to rice and other dishes.
The two Japanese sodas were fun to try, cold, different from regular sodas, and a good match with the food.
Food came out looking good and tasting even better once I added that sauce. Worth the visit.
Service was excellent, seating was quick, and the restaurant had a steady flow of happy customers the entire time we were there. Even though they’ve only been open for about two months, I can already see this becoming everyone’s favorite ramen and sushi spot. Highly recommend trying the extra spicy ramen if you enjoy a kick!
Sola Ramen & Sushi in Northeast Columbia is absolutely amazing! From the moment you walk in, the Asian-inspired atmosphere sets the tone for something special. The staff is genuine, attentive, and highly professional—there are plenty of them, and it shows in the seamless service that makes this a true dining experience.
We started with the bao buns, which were perfectly soft and flavorful—a great way to begin the meal. The seared salmon with spicy crab roll is in a league of its own: incredible flavors, textures, and freshness that made every bite unforgettable. The Angry Dragon Maki roll was not only delicious but also stunning in presentation—easily one of the best sushi rolls we’ve ever had. Even the way they present the wasabi and ginger is unique and memorable.
For the main course, the curry chicken katsu ramen was pure perfection. The noodles were cooked just right, the katsu chicken was crispy and full of flavor, and the curry broth was so rich and aromatic it rivaled some of the best Indian curry dishes we’ve had.
From freshness to quality to presentation, Sola delivers on every level. If you’re ready for a dining experience that goes far beyond just a meal, this is a must-try restaurant. Conveniently located at 185 Earth Rd, Elgin, SC, Sola Ramen & Sushi deserves to be at the top of your list.
We stopped by Sola Ramen & Sushi for Sunday lunch to give it a try. I ordered the house fried rice, and it was excellent—full of flavor and cooked just right. My wife, who is Asian and has grown up with traditional ramen and sushi, ordered both. Unfortunately, she wasn’t very impressed. After tasting my fried rice, she agreed it was much better and ended up ordering one for herself.
I also tried the fried oysters, but they weren’t very good. They had a strong ginger flavor that overpowered the dish instead of enhancing it.
On the positive side, the service was good and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, clean and welcoming. We did have to ask for silverware and chopsticks, which ideally should have been provided up front, but once that was taken care of, everything else went smoothly.
Overall, this restaurant shows a lot of potential. The house fried rice alone is worth coming back for, and we’re hoping future visits will bring more consistency across the menu.
First the ramen is pricy which is fine but I expect quality. It is a nice place after all. Ramen pretty mediocre. The chasu was cold. Not a great feeling, cold pork in a lukewarm soup. They didnt heat it up enough. They forgot a pretty major component…the running egg. If it was a first time ramen, I wouldn’t have known it came with it and that would have been a shame.
What infuriated me was it took forever to get the waitress attention. Too busy talking to the bar manager, I stood up several times trying to get her attention. Waved my arms like the inflatable guy. Did not look my way once. Thankfully, I was saved vy another waitress and my food got even colder waiting so long.
I asked if it came with egg, she says, they all do. She went to kitchen to get it, again, wasn’t even her table. My waitress was still at the bar talking, oblivious. These eggs are supposed to be runny, they were hard and cold. That lukewarm soup sure isn’t gonna heat it up after I put them in there.
Really disappointing.
