I just ordered my food to go. I did not sit inside. I started eating before remembering to take a photo . I had the bistec (couldn’t finish the full sandwich, too big to eat in one sitting), a coconut drink, and coconut flan (didn’t like it, which i had gotten the regular flan but was curious to try the coconut flan. The staff was super friendly. The atmosphere was light and friendly and everyone was having a good time enjoying their food. Parking will be a challenge. I parked a couple of blocks over but I didn’t mind the walk since I was along the water so I got to sit in my car and eat overlooking the water. The store is next to a plant shop. So rather than posting photos of half eaten food, I took a video of the running river I ate my lunch by, and a photo of a flower for you to enjoy in place of the food I enjoyed.

Have been told to try this Sol Food for the past 3 yrs and today was the day!
Visited the Mill Valley location and ordered the Bistec sandwich and I am in love!
This showstopper is grilled with onions, avocado & tender beef. Absolutely delicious!! I can’t wait to go back and try the cubano.

Tasty food, friendly service, clean atmosphere.

We got the Cubano, the Steak and Onion Bistec, rotisserie chicken, side salad, cilantro lime mayo, fries, and the pico hot sauce. The food was all great. We mixed the pico hot sauce with the cilantro lime mayo for dipping the fries into and dunking our sandwiches.

The service was friendly and fast. The staff seemed to be smiling and happy. The whole house seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Ladies in teh front were knokcing out in person and online orders while the guys in the back were cooking and cleaning up a storm.

The decor was nice and the place was clean. No seating at this location, but there is seating at their other locations.

Service was spot on! Very friendly. Unfortunately my sandwich wasn’t what I was expecting. It was fine however I think it would have been a lot nicer if it wasn’t just deli meats. Effectively it was just a ham and cheese grilled toasties, I was hoping the meat would have been home cooked like the rice and beans.

Ordered ahead for takeout, 20 minute wait. Good hot sauce on the side. Bistec sandwich and Paraíso sandwich both had only one slice of meat, not worth the price. Get the plate instead

There is inside seating by the window

I’ve been a longtime fan of Sol Food in San Rafael—the food there is consistently excellent. However, the Mill Valley location has been a major disappointment. In our last three visits, they’ve messed up our pickup order every single time. That’s not bad luck—that’s a pattern of carelessness.

We drive over an hour to get to this location, and after yet another frustrating experience, we’ve likely made our last trip. If you want the real Sol Food experience, skip this spot and head to one of their other locations.

To make matters worse, management resisted issuing a refund for an item they failed to include in our order. Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and refund what we paid for but never received. When you’re charging $28 for a half chicken meal, the least you can do is double-check the order.

My daughter in law recommended we go to Sol when she found out we were vaccinating in Mill Valley. I read the reviews some were super positive and others very negative which made me want to go check it out myself. The food was delicious! We’ve been in town for a couple of days and eaten a few places and this was the best food at the most reasonable prices. We got more food than 2 of us could eat for around $45. The tostones with cheese and avocados are so yummy. The steak combo meal (half size) is what I ordered and it was more than I could eat. My husband ordered the salad and also had leftovers. I recommend buying a bottle of the salad dressing. It’s lemon/garlic and amazing! The service was great. The atmosphere not so good. We did manage to get a seat at the little bar but this is a mostly to-go place. I definitely recommend you go to Sol and give it a try.

Incredible food – just a heads up, this location is primarily to go, although they have a counter you can sit and eat at. Food is authentic and FULL of flavor. Their homage mojo/chili sauce is incredible and worth the visit by itself. I always make sure to hit Sol Food anytime I’m anywhere close.

I don’t understand the hype. The rice was very solid and the beans were tasty. But the way they cook their beef is honestly a disgrace to the cow, a lean cut cooked beyond well done. I have to imagine there are better options around – that I’m guessing won’t have a line out the door either.

Not for me.
This was my first time trying Puerto Rican food, but it wasn’t quite for me. I ordered the Bistec sandwich and the rotisserie Chicken combo. They forgot to include the utensils I requested, which made it very inconvenient to eat.

If you’ve ever had a sandwich from Little Lucca, you will be very disappointed with the sandwich here. The fried chicken tasted very similar to Costco chicken, so it was okay but nothing special. The staff was friendly, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
