Greek cuisine has absorbed influences from various empires and cultures. It is so good because of the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients like ripe tomatoes, herbs, and creamy feta cheese. From cooking to salad dressings, Greek olive oil made from lemon, basil, and oregano is their liquid gold.
Located on a busy Boulevard in the heart of Hasbrouck Heights, I finally got the opportunity to stop in at this BYOB family-owned/operated establishment.
Upon entering for lunch after 4 years, Sofia’s Mediterranean Grill, named after the owner’s mom, I was greeted by the staff. I got a booth, immediately knowing how they get crowded. The inside evoked a cozy and warm vibe with Greek music playing throughout. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting.
Their menu features an array of traditional Mediterranean dishes, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, meats from the grill, seafood cooked various ways, and entrees cooked from the oven.
I decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. The food was authentic, fresh using the finest ingredients, delicious, and prepared simply, which is exactly what I was looking for. The portion was healthy. The service is always friendly and welcoming. I got to connect with the owner, Nick, a fellow Astorian, to catch up about the old neighborhood. The price was reasonable.
If one’s craving the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean, then look no further. One doesn’t need to book a flight to Greece to enjoy authentic meals.

Sofia’s is an amazing place. The friendly owners & staff and the excellent food has been my go-to when landing at Teterboro. They have become like family to me. I enjoyed some of their awesome food on the plane this evening.

Tony and the team at Sofia’s really makes the place work so well. The food is delicious and fresh. We tried all the appetizers in their menu, love the grilled feta, all the dips, and the grilled octopus, eggplants. We also love their lambs from oven menu. At noon in the summer, it is very pleasant to sit inside near the door, not hot at all, with breeze and fresh food. Their vegetables are fresh. And desert, i love the milk pudding on their list. The way they arrange space helps you to have some privacy and at the same time the outdoor area can fit a big group (we tried with our 10 family members and the meals went smooth and nice). Thank you for making good food and delicious dessert.

My husband and I stumbled in here on a whim and it ended up being one of those unexpectedly perfect dinners. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, cozy but still lively.
Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The Mediterranean flavors were bright and balanced and everything was absolutely delicious.
The service was genuinely kind and attentive without being overbearing. It felt like the kind of place that cares about hospitality, not just turning tables.
We left full and happy and couldn’t recommend this hidden gem more!

The food was delicious very tasty the wine was divine Moscato Dansti Rivata I highly recommended this wine for sure. The waiter was very tentative and friendly Taylor & David provided me and my friends the best service ever. One thing that I wasn’t very impressed is the size of the restaurant, it’s very small and cramped people right next to each other.

Cannot say enough good things about this place! With 20+ people we had just about everything on the menu and everyone RAVED about their food. It’s not easy to find really authentic Greek food and Sofia’s knocked it out of the park. Best grape leaves I’ve ever had. The appetizers were to die for the prices are so fair. Service is top notch- Tony and the team took care of us incredibly. Absolutely will be back and highly recommend Sofia’s!

Surf n Turf with black sea bass and filet mignon, broiled cod, tomahawk ribeye (best priced for 48 oz. $95), Beef stew, goat cheese croquettes, spaghetti seafood and lamb rack. again, service and food were outstanding. we finished off with a little kataifi ekmek. wow wow wow!!!!

Love coming here, it’s right in our town and coming from Astoria NY, the Greek capital in the USA, the food is super delicious and always fresh. We love coming here with our toddler who devours the gyro kids plate ( he’s 2)
My husband and I always order the grilled octopus which is so scrumptious, I just wish it was a larger portion size.
We’ve had the hortaki salad, platters, gyro sandwiches. I definitely recommend the salad and the lamb gyro, so great.
I had the lemon chicken soup and it was ok, nothing fancy.
