I had heard about @sobosushiboerne earlier this week that Boerne now has a sushi and oyster bar. We thought to check it out for dinner tonight.
When we arrived, a private party was happening and the restaurant was not open to the public until 6:30pm. When we came back, Juan was the server who took care of us. Dad had the lemon lime soda, hubby and I both had Duvel Belgian beer. It has a bitter after taste. We were brought back to Maine with a couple of food choices – Whaleback East Coast Oysters and Uni. Dad and hubby shared the miso soup. Hubby and I had the Oyster Sake Shooter, which had a quail egg and fish roe. All of us shared Veggie Spring Rolls. We were so full that we didn’t have room for the homemade desserts. It was so nice visiting with Chef Keith. He had been trained in Japan and opened Sobo a couple of months ago. Chef Keith is also the chef for @valeriaboerne next door. They share a kitchen! Sobo stands for South Boerne and not a Japanese word!

Nicely decorated, delicious food, and kind staff! The chef is passionate about the quality, flavor and process behind their dishes. Got to learn about real wasabi! Happy to have sushi and Japanese cuisine in Boerne!

Another amazing Japanese meal at Sobo. Chef Keith continues to knock it out of the ballpark. Not open every day so call ahead for hours. Our order: Spicy Asian Sauced Raw Oysters, Pork and Ginger Gyoza, Crispy Vegetable Spring Rolls, Yellowfin Tuna, Hotate (Scallop) Nigiri, Dragon Roll and Egg Stir fried Rice with Japanese Wagyu Beef and Baja Shrimp.

So excited for a sushi restaurant in Boerne. Our server only came by to take our order and drop off a bowl of miso soup. Had to keep calling over another server to check on our items as they were taking way longer than expected. Took 45 min to get saki, then 15 min after that to get my husbands [really bad] cucumber and seaweed salad. My miso soup was bland… after another 30 min of waiting, my sushi roll arrived. My sushi roll was only 4 pieces, and they forgot to put in my husbands roll. We left after 2 hours, starving… and $73 later. We’d love to give it another shot to support local, but not sure if it’ll be worth it. More roll options, plus a disclaimer on roll size, would’ve been helpful.

Boerne finally has a good sushi place!! First time going here and it was incredible. The atmosphere and vibes are great. The music is wonderful and I love that all of the food choices have a wine/beer pairing with it. The food is so good – I got the Dragon Roll. We will definitely be continuing to come back. It was such a personable experience. Highly recommend.

Visiting SOBO was an Amazing experience. Let’s just say I was very happy to find a place in Boerne that had quality unique food and amazing sushi. I didn’t expect to have oysters and sushi in the same place. Both were fantastic. Juan my server was friendly and handled a busy environment well providing great customer service. In any case I’ll be trying all the sushi options.

We made reservations for 7:30, and showed up on time.
The manger saw us in the parking lot and scurried over to trun off then ‘open’ sign.
When we walked up to the door, he said they “ran out of sushi.” I found this ironic because they purported to be a sushi restaurant, opened at 5 pm, and the place was empty.
For us, so-bo was so-lame…

Juan was extremely rude over the phone and exclaimed that they don’t allow you to call in orders for pick up. When I asked why he laughed and said “I could come talk to him face to face.” Not the kind of professionalism I would expect from the manager.

Not a huge menu but the apps, sushi, and fried rice we had were all excellent. The gyoza especially stood out
