Most breakfast & brunch restaurants start with the same script: eggs, batter, coffee & a big ol’ griddle. We’ve found scripts are a lot like pancakes, they’re best when flipped, so we‚re always looking to turn the best breakfast classics upside-down & on their side. Stop by for delicious pancakes, french toast, benedicts, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, bacon & more! From paleo to vegetarian & vegan or dairy free & gluten free friendly, we’ll happily accommodate food allergies & diets. We want each morning to feel like your weekend & happy hour rolled into one, so our restaurants feature a full bar with alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately, our experience started on a sour note with our hostess, Kimmy. I arrived a few minutes after my mom, daughter, and granddaughter. As I walked in, I heard my mom politely asking Kimmy if we could be seated in a booth or anywhere other than the specific table she had chosen. Kimmy huffed and snapped, “Well, if you want a different seat, you’re going to have to wait even longer.” This felt incredibly odd, as there were only three other groups in the restaurant and maybe two uncleaned tables.
We ended up being seated at a long booth, wedged between two gentlemen to our left and a party of eight (including six children) to our right. After seating us, Kimmy never brought us menus; we sat there for about eight minutes before our waitress arrived to help. Had it not been so cold outside and had we not been toting around a two-year-old, we probably would have left right then.
Because we were seated directly next to six children, the noise level was so high that my family couldn’t even hold a conversation. From my seat, I could see Kimmy at the hostess station about 90% of the time. She only moved when a new party arrived, at which point she would act like “Chicken Little,” frantically trying to clear a table as if the sky were falling—despite the restaurant being nearly empty.
For the 40 or 50 minutes we were there, we listened to children shouting riddles at the top of their lungs. Our chairs were practically touching theirs. I don’t blame the kids—children should be able to have fun in public—but if we had been seated elsewhere, my family could have actually enjoyed themselves.
On a positive note, our waitress was absolutely amazing—the kind of sweet, attentive person who makes you want to return. After we paid, she had a manager come over to speak with us, which was a nice gesture. However, that didn’t overshadow what happened as we left. While I was getting my granddaughter ready by the door, an older couple walked in and asked to be seated away from the entrance because it was freezing outside. Kimmy gave them the same “huff” and told them they’d have to wait because no other tables were clear. Again, virtually all tables were empty.
I don’t run a restaurant—I’ve spent most of my career in social services—but I would never go into a client’s home and treat them like a burden. We all have bad days, customers shouldn’t have to suffer for it. If you want to save yourself $75.00+/- and avoid being treated like a nuisance, I suggest going elsewhere. We love Flapjacks, since they are closed on Mondays, we took a chance on Snooze. We won’t be making that mistake again.
