Looking over the pics on the wall, the building is new and improved – nice, cozy and clean. My husband is from this way. He has been raving that this is the last OG BBQ spot in Dallas with good, down home BBQ, the way “we” like BBQ. We ordered two HUMONGOUS potato’s chop beef and link for the protein. The potatoes were so large we could’ve shared one and been filled to the brim. Portion size DOES justify the price. However, the potato was so over cooked that it could’ve been mashed/creamed potatoes. No salt/pepper on the table or in the bag – I could’ve made it work, if so. This place was nostalgic for my husband so he ordered for us. I have to have a sweet, so FIRST he brought a slice of sweet potato pie. He couldn’t get to the table before I asked him to take it back – very dry, very hard looking. I won’t post a pic out of respect. When he took the slice back to exchange, the cook made mention of not taking back food that’s been opened- which, it was not. Smokey Joes did accept the pie back, however my old man asked for a peach cobbler – he received a banana pudding instead. We didn’t make a fuss, I think there was a language barrier issue. The banana pudding looked like what I would expect from Prosper where we live… not in the Cliff. Even still, I wanted to give “us” another chance, paid for a serving of peach cobbler….. tasted just like the pics look, cold and sour. Smokey Joes, please reply with the best day to comeback, so, I can buy everything again and replace this review with the superiority in context we were expecting in taste.

Not pleased at all. The brisket was very dry. The bark looked like it would have flavor but it didn’t. The chicken baked potato was also dry and and not flavored throughout. The rib plate got my son quite sick. On top of that, such small portions for the price. We won’t be returning.

2 ribs, 2 slices of brisket, and 6 east texas links cost $50. The meat tasted like it was boiled and barely had any bbq or smokey flavor. I was so disappointed in the portion sizes and taste. I’ll never return.

Best BBQ I’ve had in Dallas. The sliced brisket is a must. The beans are insanely good. Can’t go wrong with anything in their menu.

Food was good, atmosphere was average nothing to brag about. Very quiet, peaceful. The staff very friendly and helpful with decision making. Would recommend if you are in the area.

Came 1-17-26 for a chopped beef sandwich. There was more fat than meat. This place tastes nothing like it used to. When buying a already well- known business, DO NOT CHANGE the way things are made. My food (once I picked out all the fat) was tasteless. I didn’t even get the bbq taste. So disappointed!! This is why I hardly come & will travel out my way for good bbq!! This place is 5 min from me. I will go 30-45 min out!!!

I was in Dallas and craving real-deal Texas BBQ. A quick internet search led me to Smokey Joe’s as the place to go! The lovely lady taking orders recommended the Texas Trinity — brisket, ribs, and sausage — which is absolutely incredible. The brisket is tender with just the right amount of smoky bark, the ribs fall off the bone with a perfect glaze, and the sausage bursts with flavor in every bite. Not only does everything taste amazing, but it’s plated beautifully — pure BBQ art. You can tell the pitmasters here take real pride in what they do. Warm service, generous portions, and that unmistakable Texas smoke make Smokey Joe’s a must-visit for any BBQ lover.

We ordered chicken and brisket and nachos. Brisket was greasy. Chicken was good dunked in BBQ sauce. Unfortunately both my wife and I got sick from our meal. We would not recommend.

“When the Queen of Side Dishes calls, Uncle Sean answers with brisket.”
TL;DR: Fourteen stamps in, Smokey Joe’s delivered a knockout combo of brisket, sausage, a Texas Twinkie, sweet sides, and banana pudding that had me hollering “hallelujah” before I even opened the to-go box.
The scene was set late on a Friday. My wife, the Side Dish Queen herself, declared that the kitchen was closed. No time for questions, only action. I fired up the truck and made my way to Smokey Joe’s BBQ, the next notch on my Texas Monthly Top 50 belt.
Walking in, the aroma hit me like a mesquite-powered freight train. The chalkboards promised beef ribs and Texas Twinkies, and I wasn’t about to leave without one of those bacon-wrapped, stuffed, jalapeño blessings. I ordered brisket with a bark darker than midnight in Big Bend, sausage with just the right snap, and that Texas Twinkie that winked at me from the tray. For sides, I scooped up green beans and sweet potato casserole because the Queen would revolt if I came home without her greens and something sweet. Banana pudding rode shotgun on the drive home, the real MVP waiting for dessert time.
We spread it all out on the table, and Smokey Joe’s delivered a Texas-sized flavor rodeo. The brisket was tender enough to make a grown man question his loyalties, the sausage had that peppery kick I love, and the Texas Twinkie? A one-bite miracle that should come with a warning label. The sides were royal-approved, and the banana pudding vanished faster than free beer on a hot day.
Fourteen stamps down, thirty-six more to go on this quest of smoked glory.
Final Dad Line: Brisket this good should be illegal, but I’m glad Texas keeps it just below felony level.

Great local spot. They say the trinity plate feeds one, but with some Texas Twinkies it’s perfect for two and is priced appropriately. Wouldn’t truly call it 5 star barbeque, but they definitely deserve higher than their current google rating. Killer mac
