The “I’m your Huckleberry” Nickster
I went here because the place across the street that said they were pet friendly I won’t say the name but it starts with golden said they closed your patio that day which I was sitting in when I talked to them and my dog couldn’t eat there. Smokey Joe’s across the street though green chili cheese steak and onion rings for excellent the waitress was very friendly not only was she friendly she brought my dog a bowl of water really good atmosphere I enjoyed. So I am Glad Golden light Cafe was rude and obnoxious.

If your looking for a laid back place to eat on Texas route 66. This place is awesome been twice now one lunch and one dinner. both time the food and service we’re excellent. if you go for dinner around 8 there is live music and its still warm enough to sit outside. so get your kicks on Route 66 and stop here to eat you’ll love it.

I am rating Smokey Joes on two scales. One as a watering hole. The second for food.
As a neighborhood watering hole it’s a 5. Cool roadside biker bar vibe. Much like the Hideaway in Cavecreek AZ. It’s got a great American setting with a quintessential Texas atmosphere.
Indoor and outdoor seating. Downtown Amarillo on old Route 66. Very cool place that’s comfortable and relaxed.
We were here on a Sunday night. So things were relaxed. But I can imagine that a Friday or Saturday is a full house.
The second rating is for the food. The chicken fried steak was great. The potato’s and beans. Great. Just that they were cold.
We also had the catfish. The fish was tender and light. The coleslaw excellent. The fries greasy and luke warm.
So close on the food…..
Don’t know if it was cold from the kitchen or sat there waiting for someone to serve it to us. But the food was a 3 star for sure.
We would go back for the atmosphere anytime. But be careful about the food. Maybe a burger next time!

Great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The smokey Joe’s burger hit the spot, but the fries could’ve been better. Should’ve went with my gut and ordered the onion rings, definitely going to try them next time I go.

Staff was very nice but the food is nasty. Had the catfish and fries which came with a side of coleslaw. Fish was not crispy, fries seemed like they were under the heat lamp since the morning, and coleslaw tastes and smells likes it’s gone bad.

Cool stop! Staff are pretty incredible. Moved fast to help people out. Definitely a small town feel. A good place to stop for lunch or dinner if in the area. Really liked their burgers and fries. They have good cheese curds and wings.
