I’m not a big fan of this new service model where you order through an app at your table so you don’t get interaction with a server (but then it still asks you to tip) I get it but personal preference will always be a real person serving.
The shinning stars of my stop were my sides and the bbq sauces. I tried the sweet potato fries and cheesy bacon potato’s. They were both cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The sauces were out of this world I liked them so much I bought bottles to serve with my Christmas smoked brisket! I got the spicy red and the blackberry sauces. Unfortunately the most underwhelming part of my meal was the meat and that’s what you come for at a smoke house. The brisket lacked flavor and was moderately dry. The ribs were flavorful but not smoked long enough so hard to get the meat off the bones. My guess is I just didn’t get a good batch of meat and based on the reviews I would try again and probably be cooked perfect. The last thing that was a bit annoying is after 10% tip and tax this cost me $32 because they have the pick 2 meats meal that comes with 2 sides but then it charges you extra for brisket and ribs and sweet potato fries. The restaurant was very clean and buzzing while I was there but not too loud. I would definitely stop in again and try more menu items.
Staff was super friendly and professional — we were welcomed, seated, and served almost instantly. We ordered through the QR code menu, which was very convenient. No need to flag anyone down, but I’m sure the staff would’ve handled it just as well without it.
As for the food — everything was great. We tried burgers and their signature meat skillet — everything was flavorful and clearly cooked with care.
We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back!
We visited Smoked while in town visiting family. Our visit was on a weekend evening between 5 and 8pm, the establishment was not busy.
Smoked is set up in a way that prefers you to order via their online App. This is a trend that I have noticed is gaining popularity in the restaurant scene. If you prefer not to use the app a staff member can still talk your order for you at the front desk.
On this trip I ordered a customized burger with fries and a drink. The food did not take long at all from time of order to time it hit the table, and was hot and of good quality. Prices were about on par with expectations regarding the quality of the meal.
As a side note, while reviewing the menu and deciding on what I was going to eat I noticed an option for 5 “jumbo” Chicken wings for $12. I am unsure how jumbo these wings are, as we did not order them, but I cannot imagine any wing is jumbo enough to warrant almost two and a half dollars per wing. Thankfully most of the menu items, in my opinion, are very reasonably priced with the exception to this anomaly.
Overall when I find myself back in Crozet it is very likely I will end up back at Smoked at some point. The dining experience was perfectly average and with a mostly well priced menu there are still plenty of options to try out.
