Yummy Southern eatery on Third Street serving classics like fried chicken, sautéed shrimp and sausage as well as the standard sides that make soul food so famous.

The fried chicken is lightly battered and spiced. Smoke Soul Salad (with fried chicken breast) is tasty with a citrusy house vinaigrette, berries and crumbled blue cheese served over a bed of kale.

A friendly neighborhood spot, with personable service.

Friends and I are here visiting from out of town and felt that the food was just ok nothing to brag about. The fact that we had to sign up to be called just to wait outside is wild especially when there was no one in the restaurant. The self serve part of the dining experience was a little off putting. The portions are extremely small for the price point. The staff that brought out the food were nice but the greeter/cashier lady was a little rude and did not make us feel welcome. Not very friendly. Fried chicken needed to be drained and dripped with a lot of excess oil. Grits were nice and creamy but lacked salt. The home fries were not seasoned deep fried and greasy. New York stip was extra fatty, beignets were dense and dry. The shrimp and grits were pretty good the portion was just sooo smalll for such a big bowl. Beans and rice were good but they skimped on the rice it looked like maybe a tablespoon was provided. Nothing like the picture from their IG.

Found this place online locally. Ordered the chicken & waffles, husband ordered the bacon biscuit sando. Didn’t get a picture though. Chicken & waffles was delicious, the fruit added sweetness to it. And for the price it was great. Unfortunately the bacon biscuit sando had potential but it was very oily/greasy, even the biscuit was drenched in oil. Environment in the restaurant was nice and colorful. Staff was okay.

Food was yummy, staff was nice, little to no service, but friendly atmosphere. Cutlery and coffee is self-serve, which would’ve been nice to know, but we figured it out on our own. The serving sizes are pretty small. We got the chicken & waffle, pancake, and fried chicken. The chicken wings were fabulous, crispy and juicy, but the chicken breast was just okay. The chicken and waffle had 2 chicken wings (including the drumsticks) and 1 waffle with a handful of fruit sprinkled over. The pancake was thick and fluffy. All of the food was a little too salty. The structure of the staff is really disorganized, so expect to sit around for awhile without food. They forgot my dad’s food, so he was just sitting there waiting until long after my mom and I finished our meals. Eventually, the staff came by to ask if we had gotten our beignets, and we let them know that we still hadn’t gotten my dad’s dish yet. They were kind enough to try to refund the dish, but I doubt we’ll be coming back.

I’m so glad Smoke Soul Kitchen has opened up a brick and mortar on Third Street! I love coming here for brunch. My favorite is the sweet creme pancake (so fluffy and perfectly complemented by the maple butter) with a side of protein and eggs. I’ve also had the chicken and waffles which was a great mix of salty and sweet.

The service is attentive and easy to order at the counter. The ambiance is comfy and feels like you’re in someone’s living room. It’s also home to the Bayview Makers, and they’re starting to sell goods from the neighborhood.

Definitely a great addition to the San Francisco brunch scene!

Vanessa and team catered our San Francisco Fire Youth Academy closing ceremony for 150 people. Event planning brings out the stress, but the team at Smoke Soul helped alleviate it by being punctual and professional. They delivered as promised. The food and set-up was top tier! Strongly recommend!
