Smitty’s Southern Style BBQ was founded in 2011 in Richmond, KY by Frederick and Bonnie Smith. In the year of 2015, Frederick passed on leaving Smitty’s to his wife Bonnie. Smitty’s continues to run as a family-owned business as they continue the tradition of his southern style cooking that originates from Alabama.

This is by far the best barbecue in Richmond! The macaroni and cheese, the greens coleslaw, and the baked beans were amazing ! Everything was finger, licking good! Very nice people and very clean place ! It’s a must stop and try if you’re in Richmond Kentucky!

I’ve ordered food here several times and told my friends and coworkers to make sure they check this place out. Great food but the service is even better. They accidentally left out a side order of ranch fries on my order and called me apologizing and offered to give me an order for free. This is phenomenal small business practice and I can’t recommend them enough. Please support local businesses like this, they deserve every dollar they earn.

The food was absolutely delicious! We got a pulled pork sandwich, another specialty pulled pork sandwich, half rack ribs, and Mac n’ cheese. It did not disappoint! We will be back even though we live 90 minutes away. Thanks for your hospitality!!!

My husband wanted to try smitty after he drove by during work and smelled how wonderful the food cooking smelled, and he was absolutely right, their ribs are amazing, BBQ is totally the best I’ve had, and the Mac and cheese is to die for. The banana pudding is perfect (Infact I think it’s better than my mom’s )!! And everyone there is so kind and sweet(: the restaurant is clean and organized and smells like great food! We will be back!! Keep up the great work.

My wife and I loved this place, they really made our night. We had driven for 7 hours that day, had a new dog in the car, and needed somewhere to stop on our way back. We ordered to-go (because of the dog) but we barely made it down the street because it smelled so good. Ate most of it in the CVS parking lot. The dessert was insanely good! Homemade BBQ sauce was incredible too. Will definitely be back, even if its not on the route.

If you want amazing old school smoky BBQ in Richmond, this is the place to go the sauce is solid it’s the perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy. The catfish is some of the best I have ever had. The brisket is phenomenal with a perfect smoke ring, and to top it all off, the sides were just the icing on the cake, just the perfect balance. Don’t sleep on this place if you love incredible food.

I love supporting local places. From the look of this basic block building, I expected the food to be amazing. Unfortunately it wasn’t. The pulled pork came presauced. It was a little too sweet for my liking. I couldn’t really taste the smoke. It was on par store bought pulled port in my opinion. The staff was super friendly and the place is what a really bbq joint should look like in my opinion. I will go back and just try something else next time.

Most delicious ribs I’ve ever eaten! I took a chance on this place while researching where to get some good ribs. So glad I did! The meat was falling off the bone, it was so tender! The barbecue sauce was so, so delicious! I had potato salad and baked beans as sides. Also delicious! The people there were so kind, sweet, and honest! The smoker was smoking outside when I went in, so I know these ribs were cooked to perfection! I haven’t eaten any of their other dishes, but they have to be good as well, because these people definitely know how to put out some good food! It was so great, I think I’ll go back again today!

Outstanding barbeque and very friendly service. We had 1 lb of brisket with mac & cheese and coleslaw for our sides. The brisket was tender and had a wonderful smokey flavor. The coleslaw wasn’t too sweet (which I prefer) and the mac & cheese was perfectly creamy. The experience exceeded our expectations and we’re looking forward to going back!

My mission was to find some really good BBQ. My husband has a firm belief ( and I agree) small business BBQ is the best. We’re traveling so I looked for a business not too far off of I-75. I think it was 7 min or so from I-75. When our gps was spouting directions I almost thought we were going th wrong way because it looked like we were headed into a residential area but as soon as we turned we saw the smokers and smelled delicious BBQ. The building is older but very clean. The tables were decorated for the season. While it’s fall it’s still warm outside but a refreshing cool inside. Pricing is on par for BBQ. If you are able to pay cash you can get a free drink with your meal if it’s over $10 ( at time of review) we did not have quite enough cash so opted to use our card. While waiting for the food we conversed with the wonderful matriarch. She had her granddaughter laughing. They also have a map that you can pin your location of where you’re from. The Food: Yum! Fall off the bones ribs was delicious. No leftovers. The Mac n cheese was the best I believe I’ve ever had. Hint I put a little of their Smitty’s BBQ in it which made it even better. We had the Cajun Ranch Fries hold the Cajun and opted for regular fry seasoning instead. Those were really good too but I am full and like to try other menu items next time so I might hold off on the fries to make room for one of their other sides. This is the BBQ we were looking for. The only easy improvement I may recommend would be music. But I was there for the food which was 10/10!
