Smitty’s is the best seafood restaurant on the sunshine coast. We absolutely loved the food. The seared scallops were our favourite. Definitely a must try place on Gibsons. The drinks selections are excellent! 10/10

The food was extremely delicious! The oysters were super fresh and nice and the halibut fish and chips were amazing. The coating was super delicious and not too heavy and perfectly cooked. There is not a lot of seating so it can be busy.

Arrived around 2:15, gave our name and number, and were seated right at 3:30 exactly as promised for their last seating (4PM close Sundays, No reservations on long weekend). Initially disappointed not to get the patio, but the bar ended up being perfect for two; intimate, cozy, and with a front-row view of the oysters being shucked. All other tables are long, better for groups.

We got a mix of local and New Brunswick oysters, fresh & beautifully presented. Definitely pricey ($4/each) No regrets, but not an everyday experience. A must for seafood lovers.

Service was amazing! Staff l smiling, singing along to the music, and clearly happy to be there. The whole vibe was exactly what you would want it to be! The view of the boats docked outside, the stunning dish presentations, and the homemade sauces were the cherry on top. The rumours are true do not skip. Worth the wait!

Fun, bustling environment. We sat inside and enjoyed the great view from the bar. There’s also seating on the deck. Great view of the Marina. The food and service were excellent. We had the crab cakes with fancy fries and the breaded, deep-fried oysters
Highly recommend

I was really excited to try Smitty’s Oyster House since it’s often talked about in town. The location and concept are great, but my experience left me a bit disappointed. The service could have been more welcoming and attentive, especially for guests who aren’t familiar with the menu. A little guidance would have gone a long way.

I found some items, like the snow crab bucket, to be overpriced for what you get. On the bright side, the halibut fritters were delicious and definitely worth trying. It would also be helpful if the menu made it clearer that certain items are served on a tray or bucket, as it’s not something you’d expect unless you’ve been there before.

Overall, there’s potential for a great dining experience here, and with more attentive service and clearer menu descriptions, it could really live up to the hype.

Great vibes and sitting in front of bar when watching the raw oysters become a dish. Food is ok, price is reasonable but seems higher for a small village? Services are good but if you carry a heavy stuff you need to think about how to deal with it when eating. As they don’t even allow you to put stuff on another chair.(the restaurant is too busy) – so my husband can only handheld his heaviest camera kits when eating….

We visited Smitty’s Oyster House over Labor Day weekend (end of August). The place has a really nice vibe and great location right on the water in Gibsons. It was very crowded, and we waited about 40 minutes for a table, which seems pretty normal for the holiday weekend.

The service was pleasant and attentive, especially considering how busy it was. The food was good, but portions felt on the smaller side, and I was expecting more authentic, simple seafood dishes rather than a more modern presentation.

Overall, it’s a nice spot to check out as a tourist in Gibsons — the atmosphere and setting make it worth a visit.

If you want oysters, this is the place. If not, there’s a good variety of dishes to choose from on their menu. I had pan-fried oysters & broccolini. My daughter ordered steelhead trout & fries. We were very happy with our meals and it’s right on the seawall so great views of the harbor.

Located in Gibson Pier kitty corner from Langdale Ferry on the Sunshine Coast. This place was worth the wait! The staff was super friendly. Best seafood on the island. Great sharing options and refreshing Bloody Caesars with freshly grated horseradish. We were so sorry we had no room for their oyster. They looked so juicy and fresh! Would definitely recommend if you’re ever in Gibson.

✨ A Hidden Gem in Gibsons – A Magical Seafood Experience at Smitty’s ✨

We had such a wonderful experience at Smitty’s! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and taken care of. We were told it might be a 20-minute wait, but we were seated within seven—an unexpected and much-appreciated surprise, especially because we were starving and so excited to try the seafood.

We sat at the bar, which turned out to be the perfect spot for two. While the tables are large and perfect for big groups or families, the bar gave us an intimate and cozy setting without ever feeling awkward or out of place. The venue itself is absolutely stunning—dark, moody, and tastefully decorated, creating the atmosphere of an upscale yet grounded coastal restaurant. You can tell there was so much thought put into the design—it feels both elegant and earthy, like a love letter to the sea.

We started with oysters, which were deliciously fresh and beautifully presented. Although they weren’t local (the ones we tried were from NB) , they still carried the bright, clean taste of the ocean, and it did leave us wondering—why isn’t it more common in Canadian culture to celebrate and enjoy our own local seafood more often? There’s so much richness and beauty in what these coastal waters offer.

As for the menu overall—it’s not cheap, but that’s to be expected when the quality is this good. Every dish that passed by us looked like a piece of art, and we found ourselves dreaming of coming back with a bigger group so we could sample even more. It’s definitely the kind of place where sharing is encouraged and celebrated.

The service was kind, attentive, and warm. Everyone made us feel right at home without being overbearing. It’s rare to find that balance, and they absolutely nailed it.

All in all, Smitty’s is more than a meal—it’s an experience. We left full, happy, and excited to return. Next time, we’ll be back with friends so we can dive even deeper into the menu and share the joy.

Thank you for creating such a beautiful space and sharing such incredible food. We can’t wait to return.
