Social Profile:

The landmark Smith & Wollensky in New York City is located on the corner of Third Avenue and 49th Street, serving outstanding steakhouse fare that features USDA Prime steaks, dry aged and butchered on-premise. Opened in 1977, the original Smith & Wollensky has set the standard by which all other steakhouses are judged. The New York Times agrees, calling the restaurant “a steakhouse to end all arguments” and Gourmet said this is the “quintessential New York steakhouse.” Although Smith & Wollensky has earned its reputation as the quintessential steakhouse, the menu is varied and offers many options beyond the signature exemplary steaks. Guests can also select from a variety of market-fresh seafood, poultry, and lamb.

Dry-aged beef, martinis & wine served by old-school waiters draw crowds to this Midtown institution.

As soon as we arrived for our reservation, the staff was quick and very attentive. They were amazing at helping my husband pick out a wine to go with our meal. The steak was cooked as ordered, and everything was hot when it arrived at the table. The restaurant is dark, but that adds to the overall experience. If you have the chance to go here, I highly recommend it. If you order anything, get a steak, the loaded potatoes, and dessert. The chocolate mousse cake melted in my mouth. We will be back!

Great service and great food. My steak was not cooked at my desired temperature but was still very good (I didn’t want to fuss since I know I’d be warming up leftovers). We were stuffed with just a few bites but wanted to keep eating because it was so good!

It felt like a New York steak house – go to the bar when you arrive to have a drink, they know your table so they put the drinks straight on your tab, straight answers about the menu and suggestions for the table, efficient (and friendly) service, and out the door in no time with a couple of extra pounds. The prime rib and t-bone were great tasty cuts!

Our visit to Wollensky & Smith Steakhouse on 3rd Avenue in NYC left much to be desired. Despite arriving 45 minutes before kitchen closing time, we were informed that only the Grill section was open until 1AM. The drinks served, including my Negroni and my partner’s Manhattan, were disappointing and tasted watered down. While my aged NY strip steak was flavorful and juicy, it was cooked medium instead of medium rare as requested. The bartender’s service was friendly but seemed preoccupied with two other couples, leaving us feeling overlooked. I wished for a more inclusive and attentive experience overall.

We absolutely loved our food: ribeye, crab cakes, Mac & cheese shells, Asparagus, wine. I do not recommend the creamed spinach tho. We sent it back & got asparagus instead. Our waiter, Tony, was great!! Love the atmosphere in this small, intimate space.

During my recent visit to Smith and Wollensky in Manhattan, I encountered a mixed experience with the server. Initially, the server was friendly, but their behavior took a downturn when we ordered a smaller amount of food due to our plans of visiting multiple restaurants that evening. We received an unwarranted attitude, with the server expressing disapproval, stating that our order was not sufficient. It became apparent that this behavior may have stemmed from a desire for higher tips with larger bills.

Absolutely delicious food! We got the lump crab appetizer, Porterhouse for two with mashed potatoes, and a huge slice of carrot cake for dessert. They had some reasonably priced bottles of wine on the menu, which was refreshing to see. My dad said this was the only nice restaurant he had been in where he never once had to pour himself wine. Great atmosphere as well. We would highly recommend you visit this establishment!

We had high hopes for the place. Don’t get me wrong, it was all good but nothing spectacular. We got two porterhouses for two for five people. One was ordered medium and the other was medium well. Both came out identical and the temp was way off. A steak house of this “caliber” should not be way off. We ordered the gratin potatoes, the brussel sprouts, creamer spinach (which had no cream, and asparagus. Nothing was special. The asparagus was literally just that, no pepper, no Parm, no garlic nothing. The potatoes was the only decent side. The service was middle of the pack.
