We came here to see Clownvis Presley along with an awesome local band named Vlad’s Skeletal Circus. This was our first time at this venue and it was certainly a memorable experience. Everyone was nice, welcoming, and understanding when I had some issues figuring out my CashApp at the merch table. This intimate venue is now on our radar for future shows, and I wish I knew about this place sooner. Thanks for the great night!

I go to Small’s for the people and the dancing. The dance floor is large and not sticky (unlike most of the other places within 15 miles), the sound system is great, and generally the folks on the floor are there to dance. There’s separate space in the main bar area if you want to just hang out and chat with folks, as well as a small patio out back. Mike & Natalie (and everyone else working there) make everyone who’s not a jerk feel welcome. They are super supportive of local bands & causes — and they frequently have some amazing big-name bands, as well.
The DJs on Thirstwave & Industrial nights play a great mix. Standards include: The Cure, Depeche Mode, NIN, New Order, Ministry, Sisters of Mercy, Wolfsheim, OMD, Echo & the Bunnymen, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Sinead O’Connor, Light Asylum, Peter Murphy, Love & Rockets, Gary Numan, Front 242, and a bunch more.
Cover is very reasonable (usually $5 for 21+ for DJ-only, non-band nights), and they make a mean cranberry & soda, which is my drink of choice, since alcohol puts me to sleep almost instantly.
I rated the food of 5 out of 5 because I didn’t want the overall rating to be dragged down by a non-rating, if that’s what happens. That said, it’s not really a place you go to for the food, since they mainly have bar snacks.
Great people, great space, great music!

Staff thinks it’s fashionable to be rude because they used to be a goth club. Audio is awful.

Just because you’ve been acting like how gentrifiers do in hamtramck for a long time doesn’t mean you do it well.

Unfortunate that this has been a tradition for 27 years.

What a great venue. Surprisingly great acoustics. True enjoyment watching my favorite band touring the U.S. from Europe.

Keeping all the worst parts of the 80’s and 90’s alive. If you want mean girls antics from washed up posers and overpriced drinks please come to smalls.

Feels compulsory to drink there is the worst part.

Feels very ableist I was kicked out for having my PTSD triggered when I complained loudly about someone putting their hands on me on the dance floor

It was our first time here, and we were not disappointed. The whole aesthetic was great, and all the posters, wall hangings, and art were awesome. It shows they’ve put on a lot of shows as they have a whole system down so we could get in quickly. The staff was very friendly and made great jack & cokes. I was also very pleased we had inadvertently discovered another pro-woman, pro-LGTBQ+ business. We had an excellent time, and we will be back

They don’t have food here, but it doesn’t mean it’s not amazing. One of my favorite venues. The owner and staff are the best, and the music sounds and looks top notch. They have great drinks for good prices, and a nice outdoor area to hang out and smoke.

Lived in Michigan my entire life up until 3 years ago, even lived in Hamtramck, and I had never been to Small’s. Always wanted to check it out just never came to pass. Back for a visit and a friend said she was going and that it would be a place I’d be into. I believe I said Duh. Kicking myself for not going sooner. It is my vibe. Love all the interesting people there feeling comfortable and doing their thing. Only been twice now. Both were on Saturday night. Love the alternative punk rock music the dj was playing the one night and then the other was a Depeche Mode tribute night which was busier but didn’t have as much fun. It was hot and unfortunately being outside didn’t give much relief. But I like how it’s set up in different sections. When you walk in there’s the bar and then you walk through to a sitting/standing area then onto the dance floor area where the stage and dj are located (my favorite area). On the side of the stage there’s an exit to a fenced in seating smoking area. It’s a fun time. There is a cover though. I think $5 for the most part. Also great, the food truck parked next to the gas station across the street. Bonus.

The staff are kind and the people I’ve met there have always been friendly. The dancefloor and stage area is small, but the sound quality is amazing. It’s loud, so I definitely recommend earplugs! They also have plenty of places to sit which is always nice.

Love this venue! It does get crowded during concerts, but I personally don’t care. The dark layout is perfect for their industrial nights.
