Well… I’m not entirely sure what all the hype is about. Small Cheval makes a good cheeseburger and fries, no more, no less. I’ve had better, and I’ve definitely had worse.

That said, it’s solid, dependable, and hits the spot when you’re in the neighborhood and craving a burger without overthinking life.

Would I go out of my way? Probably not.
Would I stop by again if I’m nearby and hungry? Absolutely. But not on a cold day, there is no inside seating

This location just stacks em burgers a bit more artful than other locations. Fast service, friendly staff. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Their chicken is pretty juicy I must mention, and their shakes are good, but you really gotta time that thing to not melt (sign of a good shake). This location has fun/plenty seating. Parking is hell.

This spot is a go-to for a really good burger and fries. The menu is simple but done well, with everything cooked fresh and full of flavor. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, making it easy to stop by for a quick meal. It’s a solid choice when you’re craving a classic burger without any fuss.

Came here after the Bears game on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint! We ordered at the counter and ate outside — perfect setup.

Adults had the signature double burgers (so good!), the fries were amazing, and the garlic aioli was bomb. The kids loved the chicken sandwich and chicken tenders.

I had a boozy shake with Baileys and chocolate, and the hubby had the whiskey + key lime shake — both were incredible.

Hopefully I can go again soon — highly recommend!

Small Cheval…I was really impressed. The quality of the food and service is on par with Au Cheval in the West Loop, but the experience is completely different. We were in and out in under 20 minutes.
Small Cheval is NOT a substitute for Au Cheval even tho my burger was on point! it’s a much different experience from the one at Au Cheval. At Au Cheval the precision that’s put into constructing every burger is straight food science to a different level.
Also, the way they dress their burgers is kinda different. Small Cheval is definitely the perfect place if you’re looking for a delicious burger and fries, but don’t have 2-3 hours to wait in line. 100% recommend!

I love this place! In the winter it is take out as they only have outdoor seating. I am celiac and it’s hard to find a place that offers fried gluten free chicken. I used to get the fried chicken sandwich but they removed it from the menu. My heart is broken over it. I still get the chicken fingers & fantastic fries with the garlic aioli sauce. Yummy! I drive a long way to get this food and it really is worth it!!

The chicken tenders are all gluten-free. I love that! Sorry gluten-tolerant friends. I love not feeling like the weird one out for being gluten intolerant. GF inclusive and five stars for all the gluten free tenders all the time!!! (I don’t have celiacs disease so I don’t have to worry about cross-contamination. I would ask them if you are).

The chicken tenders are crispy, tender, and juicy. I’m a big fan of the flavor in the breading – it’s subtly sweet but still satisfyingly savory – a culinary paradox. It’s salty and delightfully flaky, without being greasy.

The staff are helpful and friendly. I once accidentally ordered my burger wrong and asked if they could re-do it and they were so patient and gracious about it – they really earned my praise on that one.

I love the hygge vibe with all the lights, homey color-scheme, and fun music. The fries are consistently crispy because of their strategically open to-go bags, too.

Here’s to a thoughtful and fun place to get great food!

We got a burger to take to the game. We were really looking forward to it but it was not good lol. Small and hard patty, not much flavour. Maybe it’s better if you eat it fresh? not sure, major disappointment.

It is a charity 3 stars. Closer to 2.5. but they are better than a 2-star either. I ordered the signature double hamburger and it was burnt. Not sure it was meant to be, but it was not good. We got the fried chicken tender, golden fries and truffle sauce. It was alright.

I’ve been to Lincoln Park but not this location. I love how this one has a takeout only vibe on the inside but patio vibe and plenty of seating on the outside.

This time I tried a signature double, fry and lemonade. Delicious as always! I love both the burger and chicken tenders equally and that says a lot!

Best thing about moving to Chicago is I can eat Small Cheval whenever I want! Love this place.
