The dough could have used a bit more time in the oven. Since this is a counter-service restaurant where you seat yourself, no one checks on your table, and there’s no easy way to report a mix-up, or prove it, especially if you didn’t grab a receipt.
The pizza itself was average at best. The pesto sauce was flavorful, so definitely give that a try. The mozzarella was just okay (sauce and cheese are the key to a good pizza rating). The Duke combo sounded intriguing, but it was ultimately underwhelming.
While Slab Town Pizza is a nice change from the usual pub fare in the area, it didn’t live up to the hype. It’s not traditional New York-style Neapolitan pizza. The crust was too thick for that experience, but also not light, airy, or crisp enough to be considered Roman tonda style.
We’ve been coming here for years, and it’s hands-down our favorite place to eat. I’m not usually a big counter service person, but Slabtown makes it work. I just check the menu before we go and boom—zero complaints.
Here’s our usual order: garlic Parmesan wings (my absolute favorite—don’t skip these), a ½ cheese + ½ pepperoni pizza for the kids, a fried chicken salad (surprisingly awesome), and we tried one of their white pizzas this time which did not disappoint. I genuinely love their pizza crust—whatever magic they put in that dough is working.
Speaking of dough, some super nice guy gave each of our kiddos a ball of pizza dough to play with while we waited. Genius move and I thought that was so sweet- the reason I decided to write this long review. Keeps them busy, makes them feel like mini chefs, and totally saves the day when they’re hangry.
Service? Crazy fast and super efficient—blessing when you’ve got kids in tow. Also want to shout out the bartender (long-haired guy who’s been there forever)—he’s always so kind and makes a great cocktail. The Basil Smash was a win.
We literally plan our trip meals around Slabtown. Every time we come to town, this place is a non-negotiable. Come hungry, leave happy (and with leftovers). Best pizza around, no notes.
Waffle fries are crunchy soft inside. I think they probably double fry them. Very impressed. This was great food.
