With love and seasoning. Tasted just like my momma cooking. The service is sooo amazing. They were kind welcoming and attentive and it is black owned . If anyone is looking for a nice comfy place to eat good food. This is your place oh and let’s not forget the prices are affordable. Finally a place that’s not trying to rob you. May God bless this place forever❤️
I also didn’t understand the service fee. I was dining alone, and there was already a service charge added, yet tipping was still expected at the end. That felt confusing and unnecessary.
Overall, it was a bad experience, and I wouldn’t come back to eat here if given the choice.
The potatoes were also really well done and flavorful.
I can see why this place is so highly regarded.
My aunt got Pancakes and sausage, she loved it!
You won’t be disappointed!!!
We had the traditional fried chicken & waffles and the new red velvet chicken & waffles with grilled chicken -we DEVOURED it!! Delicious, fresh, fast and above all else extremely friendly and inviting! If you are in the Trenton area SKIL-LIT Cafe is a MUST! The close at 3pm so make sure you get there early enough to order and eat.
We went to SKL-LIT Cafe for brunch in downtown Trenton. It’s a really cute space for the location, with window high-tops, counter seating, and plenty of outlets .I can easily see it being a nice place to pop in, work for a bit, and grab a bite if you’re downtown.
My boyfriend and I both ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffle leaned more chewy than crispy, which is just my preference, and the chicken breast was flavorful but quite thick and ended up dry. I found myself needing more syrup than I’d normally want to make it enjoyable. The fruit on top didn’t taste fresh and felt unnecessary.
I also had the grits with American cheese, which were tasty but could have been served hotter. The coffee was fine, nothing special, and we weren’t offered a refill, understandable since the servers were clearly working hard and mentioned being short-staffed. They were kind and doing their best.
Would I go out of my way to return? Probably not. Would I stop in again if I were working nearby? Maybe. I recommend trying, but not a must-return for me.
We came in with a party of 10. Our waitress asked if we’d all like to be on a single bill. We said yes. After drink orders, a second waitress said she would be sharing table duties and took orders for half the table.
At bill time, the waitresses came with 10 separate bills (Each of our kids got their own bill as well). I’ve never seen this before. I asked that the bills go against one card and a new bill came out with the usual tip guidance (15%=xyz. 20%=abc). However, an 18% large party service fee had been slipped in the original set of 10 separate bills. The effect was a fresh bill with tip guidance on an amount that included an 18% service fee without mentioning the service fee.
It’s my responsibility to be sure of what i’m paying for, so this is on me. I’m also used to the idea of a service fee and an optional additional tip. However, this was an angle shoot — give 10 separate checks with service fee added to create confusion. Customer asks to consolidate, fresh new bill with an inflated amount and tip guidance.
