The “bread boat” itself was outstanding. Delicious flavors (I got the stroganoff- lovely mushroomy/onion tasting) and the chewy bread crust was especially yummy. Great little gem of a restaurant that’s only slightly off the beaten path.
We got the original, chicken, and veggie bread boats to split. It’s more than enough for four people and even the most hardened carb lovers. Very filling! It comes out a little hot and the original is my favorite but the rest has plenty of flavor and spice!
If you enjoy cheese, egg, and bread you’ll definitely like Skalka!
7/10⭐
I can confirm it lives up to the images
An adjaruli khachapuri is a bread boat with a lot of cheese – that’s then baked and an egg yolk and butter are added. If that sounds really good, you should know it tastes very good as well. After some internal debate, I got the spinach version.
This is just a fantastic concept. The bread boat perfectly encapsulates everything, making it so easy to tear off a piece and dip it in the center. Because of how its baked perfectly, the internal area is neither too liquidy nor too hard; on the contrary, it’s gooey and hot. At first, I was worried that tearing off a last-barrier piece would result in the cheese flowing onto the plate, but instead it oozed out of the opening slowly and gently.
Sometimes food isn’t complicated. When you have a lot of cheese, egg yolk, and butter – it’s basically impossible for it not to taste good. But you can overdo it sometimes, and they did a great job with the restraint here – nothing is excessive. The spinach also really helps tone down the fattiness of everything else with a grassy flavor.
I could honestly eat the bread by itself. Even it was great.
The only minor complaint I have is that it could’ve used a little more salt, but that’s about it. I’d be really excited to try the meat-based versions of this dish the next time I come here.
For around $17, this is a little expensive – but it’s also very filling as a lunch
This clearly is a case where a restaurant that only makes one thing has basically perfected that dish.
Overall, a highly unique and satisfying comfort food that I’m very happy to show people to. 8.75/10
The food is ideal for winter nights, the meal is hot and comforting, though a bit heavy for my taste.
The atmosphere is very casual with limited seating, so takeout is an excellent option
Waiting for my order took 20 minutes? Although the waiter brought my drink, so i had smth to keep busy with. As he said, they used to have a Georgian chef but not anymore. I know and love georgian cuisine and was excited to try Ajaruli Khachapuri.
Ambiance is super casual. Seating by the window was nice, i got to watch the falling leaves and see the waterfront.
-Amazing food
-Friendly Service
-Fast when busy
-Very clean
This place can get packed at times and for good reason; worth the wait. I’m also vegetarian, great veggie option as well as meat options.
