Simply southern bistro opened December 14, 2009. It is a small restaurant that seats about 84 people and serves a wide variety of food. The Signature dish is shrimp and grits. We also have seafood plates. Steak, burgers and sandwich’s . Jeff dennis is the chef/ owner and has 20 years experience in the food world.

Flavorful and fresh! An impromptu search on Google led us here for a quick bite on our road trip- a small but delightful detour. Part of a tiny strip mall, the simple exterior leads to a casual and cozy interior. We split the ‘Fried Squash and Zucchini Sticks’ and a ‘Simple burger’ with house-made Fries. Could have made a meal of the Sticks; they were amazing! The Burger and Fries were equally excellent! My sister and I were just looking for a small break from driving and found our new favorite restaurant!

Excellent! The service is A+. All the staff were kind and helpful. It was very clean. Now for the food, what can I say, I had a bacon, turkey, cranberry mayo sandwich on the most delicious toasted bread, My sister had the duck sandwich and she can’t stop raving about it. I also had the cucumber tomato vinerarette salad and she has a baked sweet potato done to perfection. For desert she had a piece of pecan cake and I had praline. Also excellent. For drinks we had fresh made unsweet iced tea. I will go back next time I’m in town!

Had the She Crab soup and Fried Green Tomaroes with a sweet tea. The soup was scrumptious and the come back sauce served with the tomatoes was AMAZING. Waitress was super sweet and attentive and offered extra sauce and kept my drink full. Sweet tea was also delicious, the restaraunt was clean and the prices were so reasonable. My only regret was that I was too full for the homemade desserts. Stop in and they will make you feel at home! This spot is a hidden gem, don’t miss it if you’re in Sumter!

The reason I am reviewing today: Today I decided to go here a whole hour before their closing time, and even though they’re open, they turned me away saying their kitchen is closed. This is a restaurant and they closed their kitchen a whole hour early??
Well if you’re closing early on a normal day maybe you should update your hours on the internet so we don’t all waste our times…
Also the girl that turned me away literally just walked outside 5 min after me to say hello to her significant other who parked in front of the restaurant real quick during her work hours… so clearly they have zero intention of selling any food items to a customer at this time…
I am just very disappointed.

The menu is upscale Southern fare. The servers are very attentive and serving portions are large and well presented. The restaurant looks like a start-up with standard table & chairs in a small strip mall.

We decided to go here since it’s local and we had not eaten here yet. I had a simple burger with fries and my wife had the hamburger steak with fried mac n cheese. So my burger was good. Not the best I’ve had but it was juicy and well seasoned with good flavor. Fries were typical fries. The wife was not impressed with hers. The hamburger steak looked more like a hamburger patty that they smashed a little. It was small for a hamburger steak. The mashed potatos had no flavor. No salt, butter, pepper, nadda. I tried them to verify. The fried nac n cheese was ok. The outside crunchy part was good but the inside reminded me of KFC’a mac n cheese. Not that that is a bad thing, just nothing special. Our bill was $36 before tip and honestly we have had much better food in that price range. Would we go back? Yes, it was good enough for us to go back and try something different.

We had a great experience here! The pimento cheese was tasty…we could have used more pita to scoop it up. We both got a special the ravioli with shrimp and sausage was very rich. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and the French fries were on point. The service was spot on and we will definitely be back to try more meals! Cheers

I had the Duck breast, collard greens and fried okra. Quite honestly, some of the best food I have ever eaten…in the top 10 meals from across the entire country, for this type of cuisine. The menu was simple, the service quick and the food fantastic! Even the prices were good and within reason. I will be back!

Very disappointed. Crab soup two different colors. One was cold, and one was hot, were they made two different days ( way different colors ).?My brisket was amazing minus all the fat ( 3 inches worth ). Okra, ok, fried green tomatoes good at best. However, my friend ordered the crab cakes, I have seen frozen better she called them mealy with a touch of crab. I have included that picture and what one should look like.The mashed potatoes were decent. Mac and chesse I fed to my dog. There was tea spilled on my to go cup, me being nice was wiping on my jeans… I asked for napkins ,No was the response. So I have extreme mixed emotions. Im not sure I would eat here again. Honestly, I feel I am due some sort of refund!!! Photos below show you what a real crab cake should look like, then there mealy cake. The first one is from Annapolis Md….Boatyard bar and grill. I have no affections with. All crab little to almost no filler. First 2 pictures are a real crab cake
