I’m from nyc, where we have plenty of amazingg Thai spots, so I’m a harsh critic when it comes to Thai food. For the neighborhood, the food was decent! The owner catered to me both days and he was very nice. I came here 2 nights in a row and did takeout on both occasions. What I got:

– Tofu Pad Thai Dinner Special ($17.95): Pad Thai was a 3.5/5 in terms of taste, but overall was a great value! Love the additions of an egg roll, soup, and cucumber salad – which was more like pickled cucumbers. Overall meal was filling!
– Tofu Pad Siew ($12.25): 4/5 – I really enjoyed this! It was garlicky and had good flavor. Only downside was that the broccoli was a different variety (American) vs the traditional variation (like Chinese broccoli), but overall flavor was still good.

I was served water and was able to use the restroom while I waited for my food. Staff ensures that utensils, sauce, etc are provided for the order. You can also request fortune cookies, which tbh is a bit odd for a Thai spot lol so I honestly think this spot is more Thai-Chinese fusion. I can def see a lot of influence in the cooking. While a place like this doesn’t live up to nyc standards, it’s a great and friendly Hyde Park neighborhood spot!

This is the real deal. Quickly seated and served on a Friday evening. The dinner special is great value, and the green curry delicious (protip: the breakfast/lunch/dinner distinction barely exists in Thailand, enjoy the inevitable leftovers for breakfast the next day)

Food was good little spicy but enough for me to handle and I don’t like spicy. I actually was going to check out the other thai place a min away but no one greeted me so I came here and got served right away. Such a good experience! Might be a little short staffed but wait was worth it!

Very happy with this place. We got takeout for dinner and the prices were very reasonable. The dinner special is $16 and is a great value; you get a nice portion of soup, a normal-sized entrée, an egg roll , and a cucumber salad. We got two curries (mussaman and panang) and drunken noodles and we thought everything was delicious. Only gripe is I wasn’t able to order through their website, but that’s not a big deal. We’ll happily come back here next time we want Thai food!

I was in the Hyde Park Area in Chicago and my dad and I were going to get a deli sandwich and we happened upon this delightful place. I grew up going to restaurants in this area. We were immediately greeted by a member of the waitstaff who promptly seated us. We decided to split a plate, and to add a couple of things and the servings were generous. It was enough for my dad to take a little snack home for tomorrow. We ordered the dinner special and we had chicken fried rice, soup, an egg roll, and a cucumber salad. We also ordered spring roll and everything was delicious and fresh. There was a generous amount of chicken breast, and vegetables. The staff was so friendly and they were very accommodating. The soup was so delicious we ordered some for my dad to take home.

Amazing experience. The fish was fresh (not frozen), which you don’t see in a lot of restaurants. The pad kee mao had incredible wok hay, which provided a charred & nuttiness, an essence to an authentic thai stir fries.

The manager Heidi provided really good service to us too.

5/5

The food is really good, and it was prepared quickly with fresh ingredients, but the portions for some dishes don’t match the price. I ordered pad thai (good portion), a small tom kha (good portion) and Basil shrimp (very small portion for $18.75).

Siam might not be the most authentic Thai restaurant in Chicago, but it is the warmest place for Thai students around University of Chicago. They serve students here generation after generation. The food tastes home to me. Catfish basil was the dish that we always fought for the last piece. The fried tilapia topped with special sauce is another dish we always ordered in the time of celebration. When I visited the restaurant last time, my friend who was there for the first time ordered the simple soup and it was amazingly good! I will definitely come back for food here when I visited U of Chicago again.
