It turns out that one of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants we have experienced in California is located in an unassuming building in the coastal city of Eureka.

The experience begins the moment you walk in. While it seems much of their business is delivery, the few diners who eat in are rewarded with an incredible attention to aesthetic detail. The dining room and even the restroom are decorated with Thai craftwork, matching curtains, and fresh flowers. Soft, traditional music playing in the background sets the perfect mood for the cuisine. This is not an upscale restaurant, but it stands high above its peers in its commitment to detail and cleanliness.

The food itself is unadulterated Thai cuisine, a wonderful surprise in a location where one might not expect to find such authentic flavors. Everything we ordered was spiced, seasoned, and cooked exactly as we have experienced in Thailand. The sticky rice was served in a traditional wicker container, and the Tom Yum soup arrived in a communal bowl heated with a real flame. Even the hot sauce was a house-made concoction, not something from a bottle. The dessert menu is also noteworthy for its original, not-overly-sweet creations.

Service, provided by Thai-speaking servers, was helpful and full of excellent recommendations. This restaurant is a true gem.

As ordinary consumers, we are not paid or compensated in any way for this review. We felt compelled to share this exceptional find.

Siam Orchid is amazing, the food is delicious! You literally can’t go wrong with any dish, I love the curries, the Chef’s choice BBQ chicken, the spring rolls, and the ridiculously good fermented hot sauce, you can buy a jar of it, it’s spicy, so it lasts a long time. Also the angel wings, a chicken wing with the meat removed, mixed with ground pork, herbs, veggies, glass noodles, restuffed and deep fried, do yourself a favor and get the angel wings!! The thing I love most about Siam (they do have excellent, fast service) is that their menu is friendly for all dietary restrictions. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, lactose free, nut allergies, etc., they clearly label everything and accommodate requests, although you can find menu items very easily that work with any dietary restrictions you have. My best friend is strictly vegetarian and I’m gluten and lactose free, and neither of us has a hard time finding dishes here. I do occasionally cheat on the GF with those angel wings though, they are toooo yummy!

Passing through Eureka so I decided get takeout Thai food for the road. Ordered papaya salad also known as ‘som tum,’ which means the papaya salad ingredients are traditionally mixed and pounded in a clay mortar and pestle. None of that was done! Half the papaya salad were mung bean sprouts that looked like papaya to hide the fact that they skimped on papaya. The papaya was not crisp and fresh like it should be. The green beans they used had signs of aging with small brown holes. The flavor was so bland because they were too cheap to use enough fish sauce and lime juice. And they had the nerve to charge over $17 for it with a small container of rice. This was horrible Thai food! I’ve been to Thailand twice in my life and have eaten at much better Thai restaurants so I know what Thai food should be like. I will never come here again.

The staff were very friendly and very attentive. The food came out fast, but would totally have been worth a wait if there was.

The pad Thai was some of the best I’ve ever had. Full of flavor and great texture. My girlfriend got some kind of seafood dish that was insane.

I doubt that I’ll ever be back, but I’ll be talking about the memories of the meal for a long time. If you’re in the area definitely give them a shot

We came here after visiting the redwood national park. The environment is family ish style, old but clean. The waiters were friendly and patiently answering our question. The food is delivered fast and it’s so cheap! We got half chicken for $17!!! The pineapple curry was so good! Not spicy at all! Thai tea is perfect! I will want to visit here again!

Some of the best (and most unique) Thai food I’ve had in my travels! I got the Pineapple Fried Rice with just shrimp, no egg, over brown rice, and my oh my it was good. The shrimp were as tender as any I’ve had, the cashews super crunchy, the brown rice pleasantly chewy, and all of it covered with fresh vegetables. Plus, the Jasmine Tea I ordered was head and shoulders above others I’ve had. The flowers tasted so fresh it needed no sweetener.

So delicious, always love coming here. Everything that we ordered was so good and had amazing flavor. The service was great too, they attended to us as soon as we walked in and came to the table right away to get our drinks. The food also came out pretty fast for it being a bit busy. Definitely recommend this place.

My parents and I stayed in Eureka for a few days and noticed the good ratings at this place.

My dad had ordered the Tom Yum Pak and Beef Laab while I ordered the Crispy Pork Belly. My Dad wasn’t a fan of the Tom Yum Pak but I absolutely loved it. It’s definitely a lighter Tom Yum flavor but I could drink that soup on the daily. I’m loving the tomatoes in it.

The Beef Laab was good. No complaints from anyone.

The Crispy Pork Belly. Well.. for my parents to go back for more, says a lot. I’ve never had pork belly like that before. It was battered and deep fried. It’s so different but so good! I love the sauce and dipped everything in it. Sooo yum!!

I would definitely come back. The waitresses were friendly. The space is great. The food came out extremely fast! There’s parking including handicap parking, which we used for my mom. And that was the cleanest, best smelling, restaurant bathroom in Eureka.

Loved what I had and they could make most dishes vegan! We had the fresh spring rolls, I had the yellow curry and my gf had the Tom Kha seafood soup. Everything was so good!

We ordered to-go the shrimp spring rolls and Tom Ka soup with chicken ($29). The spring rolls were very good, didn’t break apart, and the peanut dip was even better, warm and delicious! However, the soup was a huge disappointment because the flavor was just coconut milk, the chicken was so razor thin and extremely overcooked it ruined the whole dish. Also, there were hardly any vegetables in it, just mushrooms: 85% coconut milk, 10% chicken, 5% veggies!? And they also charge extra for rice, after paying $29, they can’t even include a 50 cent rice! Tom Ka should have 30% – 50% veggies and meat, and always comes with rice! And if you’re not going to include rice, then it should have more veggies and meat. (We threw away the chicken and 75% of the soup.) “C-” or 2.5 stars overall, the spring rolls saved it from being a “D-” or 1 star rating (We’re ok with the price, being in CA and with inflation as it is, we’d pay more if the soup was good.)
P.S. Leaving a bad review is not a great feeling, but we hope the business changes for the better, and we would come back in 5- 6 months for the spring rolls.
