This iconic all-American quick serve joint is one of the best in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The interior decor is reminiscent the nostalgic diner experience of the 1940s and 1950s. Many small quick serve cafes across America had a similar layout. Many have closed, but not Shorty’s. That’s a testament to good service, good food, and good management for generations.
The prices are bottom dollar affordable, and that may make you think the food is poor quality, but you’d be wrong. Good food, great prices. Great place for local college students to get a decent meal at a decent price, too!
If you’re new in town, you’ve got to try Shorty’s. If you’ve been here a while, you already know!

Their classic is mustard and chili- no cheese in the joint. This is a top tier hot dog place if you are a hot dog connoisseur. I got 2 with mustard, chili, and onion and they were delicious!

Atmosphere is like taking a time machine back 50 years which was unique. Excellent service. Greeted immediately on entry. The service was very friendly. Ordered 2 hotdogs and gravy fries. Food was ready in about 3 minutes. If you are an onion lover you might not love these because they are dry and very mild tasting. Chili was on the dryer side but worked good for the dogs. Hotdogs and buns were delicious. Gravy fries were good. Great place for quick bite with good service.

What a Great Old Fashioned Hot Dog Shop! My wife and I finally made it to this place and I wish we would have years ago! Shorty’s has been in business since 1935, so you know they’re doing something right! We both got a dog the everything way which is, mustard, chilli & onions (So Delicious I had to order another) and we also got a Large Fry with Gravy (Also Delicious and Best Seller). We just Loved the Whole Atmosphere of the Place! If you’re in Washington, Pa Please Stop at Shorty’s and get a Dog & Gravy Fries you’ll thank me!!

Really good and cheap American food. Their hot dogs and fries with gravy are absolutely phenomenal. Staff is nice and quick. It is a must see place while on your trip to Washington PA, it has been in the city for ever. I highly recommend this place.

A delicious grill fried hot dog! Why a 5 star…?Where else but here in Washington can you get an authentic grill fried dog. Plenty of home made sauce, diced onions and more. Don’t pass up the fries and gravy. Fast friendly service and booth seating or at the bar. Unusually clean and you can even order beer with the dog. A casual must stop place for a snack!
